What a man.
I am genuinely devastated. As a Trekkie I've long been a fan of Patrick Stewart's gifts, and he has given us so many moments to treasure. His portrayal of Captain Picard was legendary and unrivaled. I could spend the next week posting clips of my favorite scenes that he carried. Measure of a Man. Best of Both Worlds. Family. The Inner Light.
But the moment that lives in my brain forever was this exchange he had with a fan, blogger Heather Skye, at Comicpalooza 13 years ago, where he shared his experience as a survivor of domestic violence.
It was a moment of candor and vulnerability that you rarely see from men in public life, and so needed for such an important issue. More than that, it revealed the depth of his character.
We have lost someone utterly irreplaceable today.
“Live now. Make now always the most precious time. Now will never come again.”
Thank you, Sir Patrick, for daring us to reach for the stars and dream of a world where we take care of each other.
🖖
I hope every single person watches this video.

Sam is spot on here.
sam: local inference is a terrible allocation of scarce resources
“a lot of people want local inference, and somehow they assume that the problem is solved now because we have open-source models, we're going to be able to run them on our computers, and so we're not going to need all the stuff in the data centre
but from a global allocation perspective, actually it's quite terrible to have everybody, like, have a bunch of the world's limited supply of DRAM sitting in their own computer and being used five percent of the time
you want maximum utilisation in the cloud if you're trying to deal with this very supply-constrained environment
somehow many people's intuition is the opposite of that”
I hate these engagement farming accounts. The desktop and mobile apps are just better UIs on top of the same code. Literally all of the features listed are present when you use those. Every single one.
This kind of bunk just misleads people into thinking they have to use the CLI to be “real” developers. It’s nonsense.
I love this.
Patrick Stewart was game to do a gag at a Guster show in LA a couple years ago.
The bit was that we planted our friend Greg in the crowd with a microphone to whine about the setlist, claiming he was our “oldest fan” - at which point Patrick stood up and insisted that actually…
“I’m your oldest fan”
I love when Greg takes his hat off revealing the unmistakable Sir Patrick cone head and the audience responds in kind.
I also love that he was supposed to recite some Shakespeare to the crowd, but he acts oblivious when Ryan suggests it.
RIP to a legend who in his mid 80s was game to have some fun with a band he’d probably never heard of. ❤️
Fuck.
I am profoundly sad right now.
A grateful world mourns you, @SirPatStew.

Nothing against Tibo but wow what a mess.
So they upset a lot of people by cutting the usage limit, making people upgrade to the $500 plan to keep what was $200 before, spent a month making those upgrades a waste by resetting limits constantly, and now they’re just saying “never mind”.
This and the recently added API credits are good moves for customers. But for OpenAI it’s surely been a disastrous month. And through all this they don’t seem to have meaningfully improved the product. In fact, the one thing it’s been great at (auto code reviews) has been broken for over a week and it’s still not fixed - it just stalls and gets stuck “running” until you poke it sometimes which is super annoying.
They need to stop screwing around and focus on the product. And no that isn’t just models and usage limits.
Day 25/
We are doubling all usage limits for all Pro 100/200/500 tiers and Business Premium, effective today.
We heard your kind feedback and won’t be reducing usage limits for Pro 200, so your Work and Codex usage will stay the same. We’re also going to continue offering extended limits for dots for now, and usage of your dot will still continue to be separate from your default usage.
And we'll of course also keep shipping better models and other efficiency improvements that increase your effective usage over time.
Shit that can’t be real can it?
@TheDailyShow why would you give this hack a platform? This is a huge disservice to your audience.
Pretty easily, actually. This is a total UX design fail. When shown an unexpected text-heavy dialog like this, users look for how to get past it quickly. This dialog says in clear bold text, “Hold the brake pedal and tap activate”.
The text explaining why you’re seeing this and that it will cause damage is in a light gray don’t that many will just skip past.
I think they owe this guy the repairs and need to fix this dialog.
This is a terrible thing for Bernie (or whoever runs this account) to get so very wrong.
Republicans ranking "honesty", "responsibility", and "integrity" so high is flip-the-table-over ridiculous.
Utterly confounding poll all around. I guess Republicans not thinking we need service or kindness tracks.
New Gallup poll asks "which values the country most needs today?"
Out of a list of 12 values, Republicans put "patriotism" #1, for Dems it ranks dead last - by a lot.
Dems say "equality" is most needed, Republicans rank it 11th out of 12.
Setting up a new AWS account in 2026 is a real convoluted mess. I guess it’s not just Microsoft that has a terrible onboarding story these days.
Apparently depending which entry point you start with, you can end up with a “Project” thing or without one - and in the latter case, you get stuck with no way to create one.
And the mess between your AWS account, Builder account, IAM, IAM Identity Center, and AWS Activate is making my head spin.

This is a lie. Here is the exact text from the filing, where they specifically ask to stop certification.
The Attorney General of the United States is a bald face liar.
The Department of Justice does not seek to stop any ballot from being cast or to stop the certification of Alaska's election. This litigation seeks to ensure that after Alaskans cast their ballots, they are preserved in a manner so that only Alaska's governing officials have the information necessary to make a determination as to whether Alaskan voters were confused or mislead.
The lawsuit was written by Justice Department attorneys and the Department did not coordinate with any campaign or candidate, but rather relied solely on federal law.
This whole thread is great, but this part made me laugh (“it’s funny cause it’s true”).

there are times where astra/sol really shine in an idiot savant kinda way with wild technical chops. but i can leave claude for 12 hours and it comes back with great results. codex has written its 1 millionth unit test and shaved its 10,000th Yak, and has a critical bug
My problem with this is the attitude of the teacher saying “yeah a lot of things will start working for a few days” is retrospective in a world where a lot of people did a lot of work to prevent the worse outcomes from happening.
Now, if Dario thought the world was going to end or something, that’s different. But if he was just recognizing the actual worst case scenarios and nervous that not enough was being done - that’s not all that unreasonable.
