The Dems should keep making "passing the torch" their thing. I think it's a more emotionally compelling narrative for the progressive worldview than incumbency.

I had to temporarily reactivate my Pro Tools license for a project and forgot how much of a drag this program is. WHY does it keep refusing to do simple things? I’m telling y’all, it really doesn’t have to be this way! 8071910392990.gumroad.com/l/…

So…where did I come up with the Gusabird?? (Yes, I googled it. No, they don’t exist.) And more importantly, what are they harbingering in my psyche?

Here is a brief story you probably won’t care about unless you care about ornithology and/or other people’s dreams.

When I woke up, I heard a chorus of those same urgent calls just outside my open window. Okay now, what ARE they? Still half asleep, I managed to find my phone and Merlin’d it again for real...

…these turkey-sized monsters, gray-black feathers and confusing chanterelle-like faces—orangey folds with no discernible beak. One of them was perched on a branch right above me, slowly cocking its head, glaring down with beady yellow eyes.

This time, the app was certain: “Gusabird.” I read it clearly. It came back with a little picture and everything. And then I saw them in up the trees…

(In the dream, yes, which is weird; usually I can’t operate technology or read screens in dreams.) At first the app guessed it was a duck. 🦆 Which it clearly wasn’t! So I asked Merlin to listen again...

It was a three note sequence, melodic but urgent—with three or four birds echoing the song in conversation. So I pulled out my phone and scanned the sound with my trusty @MerlinBirdID app.

In my dream this morning, I was hanging outside my high school, as you do sometimes in dreams—at night for some reason—and became aware of a distinct bird call I didn’t recognize...

If, like Kalli, you’re curious about Spatial Audio (e.g. Ambisonics, Dolby Atmos, etc.) and want to learn more, drop me a line. It’s been a paradigm shift for how I think about sound and I love sharing what I’ve learned!

In addition to recording some of my fav albums, Steve Albini shaped the way I think about sound for radio/podcasting. He wasn’t just a great engineer, he was a documentary artist. He used his technical craft to reveal his subjects, always keeping the focus on them... (cont'd)

Despite seeming gruff on the surface, you could also tell the guy had a ton of heart. And his YouTube channel is such a generous educational resource. youtube.com/@ElectricalAudio… What a loss...

My dream is that podcasting could aspire to his level of craft. I'd love to help make that happen... (I'm also available for hire BTW!)

Still no response from @Google on why the PublicRadioNYC Google Group--an active forum for ~7,600 radio journalists, podcasters, and audio producers--was banned/removed yesterday afternoon. If you know folks at @Google who can help us restore the service, DM me. Please share!

The group has now been restored. Thanks to everyone who helped amplify this. Still no word from @Google on what that supposed violation was! 🙃

UPDATE: The PublicRadioNYC Google Group is back up and running after 24+ hours of suspension. (Still no word from @Google about what the supposed violation was!) It's disheartening the group owners never received warning before service was suspended. Please revise this, @Google!
