How you respond to the Nazi tattoo candidate is how you would have responded to "grab them by the pussy" if you were a Republican.
Democrats have spent the last ten+ years bemoaning the evilness of Republicans who acknowledge Trump's flaws, but support him anyway because "the alternative [ie, the other side being in power] is worse." Then along comes misogynistic racist Nazi tattoo guy, and every single Democratic politician is obligated by the base to support him because... drumroll.... "the alternative [ie, the other side being in power] is worse."

Annie says the way Amber handled AB’s contract did her in. AB had no leverage to ask for full value & Amber gave it to her anyway!!! $200k “savings” this season in exchange for all the leverage Indy had with RFA years. No room to pay KM/CC now. Crazy work.
I still cannot believe the way last offseason was handled. The way Amber/Kelly handled KM & AB was criminal. Should’ve traded KM for full value when she refused to sign for multiple years. Front loading AB’s discount to this season & maxing her now handcuffs the new front office

I’ve never seen a league legit want a player to fail like this. Hit piece after hit piece. They are going to cover this in documentaries for years to come.
Notes on the Fever and their reputation within the WNBA, per @anniecostabile, @_Brian_Hamilton: - An agent said clients regularly disable social media accounts before and after games against Indiana due to increase in toxic messages they say they received - A different agent said clients have reported being called the N-word at Fever games "multiple times"; Fever say they have received no complaints about racial slurs from fans at home games - Amber Cox plans to reach out to WNBA, WNBPA after Finals to tackle issue of player-fan dynamics

It's kinda weird how despite the fact that Mehdi has actually got him here he stays focused on the meta point and doesn't point out that Trump's deportation policies aren't popular
Me: "Even if it was unpopular, are you saying the Democratic Party should not speak out against the president sending migrants who have committed no crimes to be tortured in a foreign gulag?" @mattyglesias: "Yeah." Me: "Just stay silent?" Yglesias: "I think that sometimes, if you want to help people... you gotta win first." Me: "They might be dead in three years time, by the time you win." Despite all the arguments on this hellsite over the exact number of his Piker tweets, this was the part of my interview with Matthew Yglesias that really stood out to me. I was actually stunned by this response. Shouldn't politics also stand for something more than triangulation, polling and 4-D chess strategizing? Full interview: zeteo.com/p/matt-yglesias-me…

Been getting a lot of this exact response today and it's honestly pretty amusing how much American exceptionalism there is on the left.

Democrats today are to the right of Reagan on every single issue and to the right of W on most. They have almost never moved to the left ever and it never lasts more then a couple election cycles before they fall in line did the GOP
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
Reagan backed a human life amendment banning most abortions and signed 1986 amnesty. Democrats today support restoring Roe and higher taxes on wealthy after his top rate cuts from 70% to 28%. DW-NOMINATE shows Dems moved modestly left, GOP more right. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Political… reaganlibrary.gov/archives/speec… voteviewblog.com/2015/06/10/mor…

AES’s messaging often hits this tone for me where I can’t decide if he’s genuinely cooking or just a bit too cute/self-aware to really connect with voters. Broadly, he’s a high-quality candidate, but when I hear people compare him to Obama or talk about him as a ‘28 contender, I don’t quite see it. He’s a little too prone to winking at the audience, a little too clever, to really hit that perfect facsimile of sincerity you need to go truly national, imo. Compare to Trump; both AES and Trump, imo, display the poster’s drive to dunk, to own. But with Trump, it feels compulsive and personal—he *appears* to care less about how it’s received and more about his genuine need to vent his spleen on the people he hates. This is similar to how you get so many voters who kept seeing Trump as a “straight shooter” despite his constant lying; his lies come off less as calculated, manipulative, clever ploys, and more as the sincere expression of his own narcissism and rage. In a way, he’s always managed to be ‘honestly dishonest’: someone who lies to satisfy *his own* emotional needs, rather than to cannily manipulate the audience. The fact that many of his lies are so ridiculous and facially absurd goes to this point—they’re not clever or plausible, so they don’t seem intended to manipulate, but instead come across like an *authentic* or *honest* expression of *intent* and *worldview*, despite being literally false. Trump’s drive to dunk is the same; typically his dunks appear impulsive and guileless, a sincere and unfiltered expression of his resentments rather than anything calibrated for an audience. With AES, however, you get the sense that his drive to dunk is a little too self-aware, a little too eager for likes. Less an expression of sincere anger and more a “get it? That was a pretty good one, right?” nod to the audience. Again, still broadly a very capable candidate and communicator, but if he ever wants to go national, he’ll have to learn how to fake sincerity a bit better.
A head-turning new "Michigan First" ad from @AbdulElSayed - he names some issue he agrees with MAGA voters on, then plays a supercut of Fox News hosts/Tucker praising him or bashing Mike Rogers. semafor.com/article/10/23/20…

Some centrist pundits will be like “perhaps we should grind some trans people into paste, to win independents in OH-09” which prompts some trans pundits on social media to be like “every Democrat alive wants to murder me, they are all Hitler,” Meanwhile blue states have made approximately ~zero concessions on trans issues (even when unpopular with their own voters!) and writ large trans people are extremely reliable Democratic voters and donors. The whole thing is extremely detached from reality.

Grim irony of Dems/trans people is that Dems have stuck to their guns on trans issues to a remarkable degree, and trans people are a 95%+ Dem voting/donating/volunteering bloc, yet both Dems & trans people are convinced the other is betraying them because of online discourse.

I can't echo this enough. We're all obsessed with polling errors when there's barely any polls! There isn't a single Kansas Senate poll conducted entirely in October from a nonpartisan pollster. And just *3* since Labor Day.
I wouldn’t call anything in Kansas a polling error because there are barely any Kansas polls

You know how I know this isn't true? There is absolutely ZERO chance that a WNBA player, the most sensitive athletes on the planet, got called a racial slur by a fan during a game and didn't immediately report it to the refs/arena security. Literally zero chance.

You could not possibly create a more obviously fake story than this one. I'd be more inclined to believe a story claiming that Donald Trump went a whole week without shitting his pants.

It's frightening that the swingiest voters are the ones who don't know who controls Congress.
New: Low-info voters, who put Trump in the White House, now look even more anti-Trump than high-info voters, and give Dems bigger margins on the generic ballot. 1 out of 3 Trump voters who can't name the party in charge of Congress now back Dems for 2026 gelliottmorris.com/p/poll-lo…

Yes and that is a big problem because all of those people are deeply annoying except some of the senators (and I’m including moderates and centrists here)
Ppl just like straight up do not know the difference between a senator, a substacker, a twitch streamer, a staffer, someone who works for an agency, and an NGO. It’s all just the party or w/e

Hi @AnnieCostabile thanks for helping me see what journalism is. From a WNBA fan, I’m wondering if we’ll ever get a follow-up investigation into how the WNBA MVP wasn’t ejected nor suspended in the playoffs for confronting a fan in the stands, when the rule book clearly states players “will be automatically ejected” for doing so. Also, is it possible to get a story following up with all the Indiana Fever fans who have been falsely accused of fan misconduct at Gainbridge? I am not a journalist but I’d think that this has happened enough times that it may merit some conversations with them? As for today’s story, I did call it a hit piece against the Fever. I didn’t see any of the commentary from current and former WNBA players who responded to Kelsey Mitchell’s comments by telling her to ignore the DMs from trolls/bots and celebrate all the opportunities that come with playing alongside Caitlin Clark. But I guess those perspectives are less important than unnamed sources. The article is written in a way to imply that free agents who sign with the Fever would be selling out for money / top-tier facilities. When has a professional men’s team ever been positioned this way going into free agency? Of all people in this ecosystem, I’d hope that it would be journalists who can see that so much of this noise is due to bots/trolls and not the actual humans who are Indiana Fever fans. Those trolls/bots crave attention, but I suppose @TheAthletic and @nytimes do as well.
I don’t pick when players share information. When the second leading scorer and third place MVP vote getter talks publicly about her experience that prompts questions. The answers to which can become the basis for a story. Happy to provide a journalism lesson today 🫶🏻
