Strong winds are forecast across the country in the coming days. Avoid coastal roads, piers and promenades to keep yourself safe. While localised heavy rain may ease pressure on water supplies, the drought is still far from over. Check your flood risk: gov.uk/check-if-youre-at-ris…

International humanitarian law exists to preserve our shared humanity in the darkest moments. The protection of first responders and humanitarian workers is not optional. It is a fundamental obligation.

Preparedness is saving time when it matters most. Before Kenya's first Ebola case was confirmed, @KenyaRedCross (KRCS) had strengthened surveillance, screening, risk communications and community engagement, and emergency readiness in high-risk counties. Today, KRCS has activated 5 Safe and Dignified Burial teams and deployed 1,200 volunteers to support screening and infection prevention at 10 priority points of entry, reinforcing the national response and helping prevent further transmission. #EbolaResponse #PreparednessSavesLives

Too many Red Cross and Red Crescent jackets have become shrouds. In Brussels today, I joined leaders from across the humanitarian sector, including colleagues from many National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, and the @ICRC, for a high-level panel discussion at the International Conference on the Protection of Humanitarian Aid Workers, hosted by the European Commission @EU_ECHO and the Irish Presidency of the Council of the EU @Ireland2026eu. I shared a simple message: humanitarian workers need more than our gratitude. They need protection. Respect the law. Invest in trust. Ensure accountability. So far this year, 22 Red Cross and Red Crescent volunteers and staff have been killed while helping others. Most were local responders serving their own communities and carrying the greatest risks. Let’s turn commitments into action. We owe that to all those who have lost their lives while helping others.

Our thoughts are with our colleagues, their families and the entire @RedCrossUkraine team. We wish them a full and speedy recovery. Humanitarian workers must be protected. They must be able to help communities safely.
Three @RedCrossUkraine representatives were injured in an attack in Sloviansk, Donetsk region, on 13 October. All three sustained wounds and burns and are receiving hospital care. Their office was heavily damaged. My heart is with our colleagues. Wishing them a speedy recovery.

The @IFRC is deeply saddened by the death of Ismael Mulindwa, an ambulance driver with the @UgandaRedCross, who passed away on 1 October after being seriously injured in an attack while supporting the Ebola response in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. We extend our deepest condolences to Ismael's family, loved ones and colleagues at the Uganda Red Cross Society. Attacks against humanitarian workers are unacceptable. Our statement.👇

One month after devastating flash floods swept through northern Nepal, families are still coping with loss, displacement and uncertainty. The @NepalRedCross, supported by @IFRC, is continuing to scale up assistance as damaged roads, bridges and critical infrastructure continue to hamper access to some of the hardest-hit communities. As recovery needs continue to evolve, the IFRC’s 24-month Emergency Appeal continues to support both immediate relief and longer-term recovery efforts. 👇ifrc.org/press-release/nepal…
