By the way, if anyone wants to see what Booktok considers "fancy" writing, apparently it includes writing out numbers and using big words like "linoleum." We are all screwed, aren't we?

Four people picked up my sci-fi/fantasy cli-fi book recently because they actually gave it a look and realized it wasn't 1 star garbage. Thank you. And thank you to the many wonderful acquisition editors who offered their insight when I was on submission with it.

Nevermind, someone paid for the privilege to read 6 pages and do this... Joke's on them though...I still got paid!!!

Meanwhile, in Canada... My novel, One Aon Fatality, is now considered too fancy. 1 star! Come read my fancy sci-fi book with absurdly lofty prose! 🤣

Since I'm the person who wrote a speculative romance where the tiny thin FMC wants to hook-up with anyone larger than her... Am I the only author out there who wrote a XS main who wants an XXL lover? I keep seeing the inverse. Where's the love for larger love interests?

One truth of being an indie author isn't jealously of other people's successes, it's the frustration of putting in all your energy into creating a literary work only to have people mock it because of the one typo at page 103 when the same is not said for popular works. #writer

The joy of being a multi-genre author is the breadth of books I offer. For those who want variety you can have... A bombastic action cli-fi book series. Or, a melancholic Twilight Zone romantic body horror. Or, a punchy yet heartfelt sci-fi tween LitRPG. Or, dark-humored shorts.

3 reviews bombs (from people who only read romance and adjacent) on my One Aon Fatality novel in 1 week because I had the apparent nerve to criticize a few lines from a book in a famous romantasy series. THIS is the punishment indie authors get for noting the industry hypocrisy

Follow up overnight. The Republicans lost harder. Trump is having the biggest meltdown since Fukushima. My KDP dashboard didn't lie and someone actually bought my cli-fi book. Today is a good day. I must have died in my sleep.
Someone bought my book. The Republicans lost. Trump is spiraling. I can go to bed happy.

Two "review" bombs, no book sales, and the sobering realization that the most popular book genre ever appeals to people who think a character's eye color is a personality trait is not how this author wanted to start her November.

As expected, a fellow writer who either cannot handle criticism or a rabid fan of very popular and objectively poorly-written books has found one of my books and left the lowest rating they could manage because they are petty and don't know what working with editors looks like.

I have come to realize the intersection between "We don't judge people for their politics" crowd also includes writers who say "Editors ruin an author's voice" and "We don't criticize books" are the same type of people, the 'don't tread on me' crowd.

Every creative arts training/education includes peer critique. It is not a personal review but about the creation presented. Unlike with political stances.

THE WALL excerpt from ACOSH, part of the ACOTAR series. For those who needed a video explaining why this isn't million-dollar prose but instead a juvenile narration with simplistic and redundant words with no understanding of POV nor character placement, drivel for pages.

This prose might make millions but it isn't worth millions: juvenile narration with simplistic and redundant words with no understanding of POV nor character placement, drivel for pages. ACOTAR. Thorns in my eyes sounds nice right about now. THE WALL excerpt from ACOSH.

Excerpt acquired! Get a load of that million-dollar prose, my fellow writers!
I think I saw the "build a wall" quote from ACOTAR Number Whatever, and aside the obvious, I can't get over an earlier line that includes "it made her very, very mad." It's the "very, very" bit that gets me. Is the author/readers so dumb they don't know the word "enraged?"

Bonus points if someone can provide a screenshot of the page with this line on it. Caught it at a glance and it makes me very, very mad. Sorry. It pisses me off. Bothers me. Infuriates. My soul boils at this indignation done upon English literature, aka, some people are dumb!
