March 2023 is a reminder: a 'stablecoin pool' isn't necessarily stable under stress. As USDC lost its dollar peg, trading flows shifted and pools became imbalanced. For LPs, the mix of tokens left in the pool can matter as much as fee income.

A fixed swap fee treats a calm market and a fast-moving one the same. But LPs can lose value when arbitrageurs trade against stale pool prices. Higher or adaptive fees may help cover that risk, at a cost to swappers.

A 16-day Ethereum block study found swaps in the first 10% of block gas paid 8–17x the priority fees of those in the 30–60% band. It's a measured association, not proof that bidding more guarantees earlier execution.

DefiLlama's snapshot showed a split in weekly DEX volume: Ethereum ~-16%, Solana ~+7%. A market-wide headline can hide very different trading conditions. Even chain volume won't tell you the depth of the pool you're about to trade.

A pool can have plenty of capital overall but little liquidity near the current price. That's when a larger swap can move the price fast.

A tight LP range can earn fees efficiently while the market trades inside it. If price moves outside the range, that position stops earning swap fees until price returns or the LP repositions.

A quote reflects the pool state when it was calculated. By execution, price and available liquidity may have moved. For volatile pairs, check minimum received before signing.

DEX volume is down 20.2% week over week on DefiLlama's dashboard. A quieter week can reflect volatility, trade sizes, or fewer trades. One chart can't tell you whether swaps got easier or harder to execute.

Before you buy a random token, a quick checklist can save you. · Look at the liquidity: a thin pool means you might not be able to sell without crashing the price. · Check how concentrated the holders are, since a few wallets holding most of the supply can dump on you. · See if the contract is verified and audited, and whether the team is known. And be wary of tokens you can buy but mysteriously can't sell. A few minutes of checking beats a painful lesson.

A perp lets you bet on a price going up or down with leverage, and unlike a normal futures contract, it never expires. To keep its price tied to the real asset, perps use a funding rate, a small payment longs and shorts pay each other periodically. Leverage cuts both ways. It magnifies gains and losses, and if the market moves against you far enough, your position gets liquidated.

Stablecoins are quietly reaching your local bank. Small banks get to offer this without hiring blockchain engineers. That's how stablecoins spread, through rails people already trust.

October has a reputation in crypto for turning green, and this year the setup fits. Seasonality isn't a guarantee, and plenty can still go wrong. But the mood has clearly shifted from the summer's gloom. When money comes back in, trading volume and pool depth tend to come with it.

Zooming out on the DEXs worth watching. The pattern this year is that they're becoming more than swap venues. Hyperliquid added lending. Swapping was the starting point. The direction is a full set of financial tools onchain, in one place. We're building on the same chain that shift is happening on.

How does an onchain app know the price of something? Through an oracle. Smart contracts can't reach the internet on their own, so oracles bring outside data, like prices, onchain in a form contracts can read. It matters more than it sounds. If an oracle feeds a wrong or manipulated price, lending markets can liquidate the wrong positions and trades can misprice. Reliable price feeds are quiet infrastructure that a huge amount of DeFi leans on.

Perp DEXs have mostly kept US users out. If that changes, it opens the biggest market in the world to onchain derivatives.

Stablecoins are branching out. Beyond the plain dollar coins, yield-bearing ones are growing fast. The appeal is obvious: hold a stable value and earn while you do. The tradeoff is that the yield comes from somewhere, and that somewhere carries risk a plain dollar coin doesn't. Understand how any given one generates it before you park money there.

Tokenization is picking up speed, and Nasdaq is putting $100M into crypto rails. The pitch is simple: stocks, bonds, and funds that trade onchain, around the clock, settling in minutes. If it plays out, a lot more real-world assets trade in the same place crypto does. That's a bigger market for every onchain venue.

Staking, simply. Some blockchains run on proof of stake, which means people lock up the chain's token to help secure the network. In return, they earn rewards, a bit like interest. It's a way to earn on tokens you plan to hold anyway.
