Bitcoin is literally actively detrimental to humankind without privacy. It is A BAD THING FOR THE WORLD.
Privacy is too fucking important to treat as a LARP, or a funding grift, or a game. Every single privacy project in the history of this space has been one or all of the above.

INVESTIGATION UPDATE
Many of you have asked how personal information ended up in the phishing emails, particularly those who ordered from us years ago. Here is what we have found so far.
Phishing emails:
We have identified more than 23,000 phishing email attempts across our email systems, including 19,057 messages delivered through Mailgun and 1,503 messages sent through Google Workspace. Some addresses received multiple messages, and some attempts failed or were stopped before delivery.
These numbers do not tell us how many people had personal information exposed. We are still determining that number and will share it once we can confirm it.
Older orders and abandoned carts (WooCommerce):
Before moving to Shopify in May of this year, our store ran on WooCommerce. We had configured automatic redaction of customer details 60 days after shipping. When we viewed those orders in our store admin, the customer details were no longer visible and the orders showed as redacted.
During past database migrations, orders were copied into a new set of tables, but copies remained in the old tables. The redaction process updated the newer tables, which were also what our store admin displayed. Orders therefore appeared redacted even though older copies still contained personal information.
We also found personal information in other order and refund records, as well as abandoned carts. This included shipping details entered by someone who never completed a purchase. We are still checking the historical settings and redaction process to understand why these records retained data.
Those older records were held in systems the attackers were able to reach. We relied on the redaction shown in our admin dashboard, and we now know that was insufficient to verify that the underlying data had been removed. Whatever the shortcomings in the tools we used, protecting your information was still our full responsibility.
We plan to share our findings with WooCommerce and the relevant plugin developers. When an order is marked as redacted, its personal information should not remain in another table in the same database.
For other WooCommerce store owners: do not rely solely on what your admin dashboard shows when personal data is redacted. Have your developer or agent check the entire database for information left behind, including legacy tables, refund records, and abandoned carts. This is especially important if you have used WooCommerce for years or have been through database migrations.
Recent orders (Shopify):
Customer details from orders placed on our Shopify store since May may also have been exposed. We are still investigating the extent of any unauthorized access.
These orders had not yet been manually redacted. We updated our privacy policy when we moved to Shopify and were building a tool to automate redaction, but automatic deletion was not yet active.
Other possible sources:
We have received reports of phishing emails containing personal details that customers say they never shared with us. We are investigating whether the attackers combined information from our systems with data obtained elsewhere, but we have not confirmed a connection to breaches at other companies. Historical support records are also part of our investigation.
What we have done:
We have revoked affected email credentials, cleared queued phishing messages, and taken affected legacy services offline while preserving evidence. Our investigation into the full extent of the compromise is continuing.
We have found no evidence that this incident compromised Passport devices or the private keys they hold. The phishing emails are designed to trick you into revealing your recovery phrase, and including your correct personal information makes them more convincing.
Never enter your recovery phrase into a website or share it with anyone, including someone claiming to be Foundation.
We will continue sharing confirmed findings and publish our full report when the investigation is complete.
So @FoundationHQ just lied about purging customer data after 60 days? Do I have that right?

BIP-448 is good to go to me. We’d like to signal for it once wider consensus is achieved.

can we talk again about the future of bitcoin and how to make it real sovereign censorship resistant money for the world ?
it's about time.

So can we all agree now that maybe being able to apply some restrictions to your utxos - like where to or how much can be spent may have some usefulness?
It's funny how everyone is talking about bitcoin right now.
Everyone is excited to buy it as evidenced by its record breaking ETF flow.
It's still the best asset on planet earth to build wealth and escape the fiat ponzi.

The Treasury Secretary had a revealed preference moment this week and showed he will defend the bond market at the expense of the currency. His department is literally buying duration from the market and financing it with cash-like bills while calling it "liquidity management". The market responded as if it were saying there's no way sacrificing the currency can pull more physical resources out of the ground faster. The state department is engaged in a loser of a war at the location of nearly a quarter of global energy production and throughput and have zero elegant ways to get out. The Treasury has been issuing 60% bills (in ever growing amounts) for two years and keeping long end issuance flat like the biggest economy on Earth is a banana republic. The Fed has talked tough on inflation that has been above target for 65 months and the new chair holds disaster press conferences where he cannot articulate a single substantive view for the path of policy despite clearly loose financial conditions. Demographics of every major economy are flat or negative and they're sitting on over a hundreds trillions worth of unfunded promises in the form of pensions/entitlements, combined. The AI buildout continuing is now a matter of national security. The state is funneling tens of billions of dollars of off-budget credit into strategic industries via the export-import bank and buying stakes in dozens of companies via the Commerce Dept. We now have brokerage accounts for infants. The president's family owns a business that now has a banking license and issues its own stablecoin. The state is declaring it wants US to be the crypto capital of the world. The Treasury is working to tokenize the financial system and then pump trillions of dollars of stablecoins into under-served markets around the the global economy to sustain dollar dominance, expanding access to U.S. assets and creating a potentially large volume of new demand for more short term govt paper. National debt is $40T. The current President has added more to the debt total in his full time in office than any president in history. Various major governments are openly weighing paths to capital repatriation and financial repression in full view of the public eye. Debt to GDP is at WW2 levels and there is no planet in god's creation where they can reverse it without heinous capital controls and a couple decades of rampant debasement.
All of this is happening right now... today...
and you're bearish Bitcoin of all things?
Brother in Christ.

Never forget that these people had absolutely no idea what they were talking about.
Never forget that these people had absolutely no idea what they were talking about.
Those who wasted our time and energy with BIP-110 are not going to tell us what to focus on.
Bitcoin needs a great consensus cleanup and covenants. Possibly a few more optimizations.
Just because the most retarded update in Bitcoin's history has failed, doesn't mean we need to slow down.
The great crashout of the incompetent is over. The engineering mindset must take over now.

We do covenants, right. f*ing. now. These forktardians were a major factor in delaying an upgrade that could've saved a non-trivial number of Coldcard victims, so out of respect for those who lost everything, let's get it done as soon as possible. Covenants activate in 2027, LFG
