Even though I don’t agree with how Namo Fazil handled things or the level of respect he showed, we shouldn’t ignore the broader anti Kurdish sentiment that has existed in some Dagestani and Chechen circles. Some individuals have openly supported Turkey and expressed hostility toward Kurds. There is also a documented history of thousands of people from Chechnya and Dagestan joining jihadist groups in Syria and Iraq, including ISIS, although this should never be generalized to Chechens or Dagestanis as a whole.
