Mafia 3 definitive edition PS5 review- Short summary Story-8/10 Pros ■Main character Lincoln clay is well voice acted and is a strong lead character. Doesn't take much shit from people. You empathize with his trauma and want to see him takedown the antagonist sal marcono ■Story telling The story is told in a unique way treating everything that happened like a real historical event, I liked the way it switches from interviews talking about the events you're about to play and commit and then seeing how it plays out ■Time period narrative The 1960s setting in a racist fuelled south doesn't shy away from major political issues. Touches on Vietnam veterans ptsd aswell as racism that black people had to go through during the time. Adding details like some stores wanting to kick you out due to your colour and other characters treating you poorly due to Lincolns race. You really feel this as you play ■Missions Fun missions that at times make you feel like you're playing an action movie with dramatic set pieces Cons ●some pacing issues especially near the middle of the game ●some side characters felt abit forgettable Presentation- 7/10 Pros ■Time period absolutely nail the 1960s esthetic ■Setting the city of new bordeaux and its bayou are well crafted and feel real ■ Voice acting the voice acting and character models are well detailed and feel authentic. Especially to the time period ■Music the soundtrack especially with inclusion of licensed music from the era really help bring the world alive Cons ●A few times there was some texture pop ins ●the game did freeze for me on 3 occasions ● while the world is beautiful. Its also quite empty. Acting more like a backdrop, rather than a world you can interact with Gameplay-5/10 Pros ■Gunplay Gunplay is very good, every weapon feels smooth to use with impact behind every shot ■ Driving Driving also handles well, I think the use being able to go into slow mo really helps on some of the tighter roads of new bordeaux ■Rising up Working your way up does feel rewarding at times as you can call in favors such as bribing cops or having a car dropped off for you. Having sit down meetings and allocating areas you took over to whoever you please makes you feel like you're the boss Cons ●The Ai The ai is quite dumb and easy to kill which when the gameplay loop relies heavily on killing lots of rival gang members it can dull fast ● Game length It doesn't help when the game is padded out with these same missions that make it somewhat a chore to go through and do these tasks. Extending the games length longer than it should be in my opinion ●No fast travel While the driving is good having to go from one side of the map to the other can feel daunting after awhile Not a bad game at all Id compare it to an unbaked cake. Has some good ingredients such as the world and the story even the gameplay in terms of how it plays is good But what you do in the world is where it gets let down Overall id give it 7/10 Have you played it?
