A Canadian family looking at a home in Kelowna, B.C., reports something staggering:
🏡 House built in 2021.
🌲 2.5 acres of land.
💰 Land assessed at $1.4 MILLION.
📌Annual property taxes: $17,000.
That’s $1,417 EVERY MONTH just in property taxes.
Before the mortgage.
Before utilities.
Before maintenance.
Before increasingly expensive wildfire insurance.
And here’s the absurdity:
You can pay off your mortgage after 25 years and STILL face thousands in annual housing costs.
We’ve spent years debating whether Canadians can afford to BUY a home.

The one thing that nobody talks about is property tax and how much that has gone up. We were looking at property in Kelowna BC, now that Eby is out, I’m hoping to move closer to my family. We were looking at one house that was nice, my husband went to look at property tax, $17,000 for a house built in 2021 with 2.5 acres of land. They said that the land was valued at 1.4 million, wtf, since when? This wasn’t even water front.
How would anyone be able to afford taxes like that? BC is so out of touch with reality and real estate, it’s not funny. Good luck in selling those homes, and then there’s the cost of house insurance that most areas don’t qualify for now because of fires ripping through every few years.
See what the government has done to society, it’s basically impossible for anyone to become a homeowner.
