This article repeats the idea that oil wells were drilled near poor people’s neighborhoods. The oil wells were there before people moved into those neighborhoods. The reason it was cheap to do so is because they’re near oil wells, not racism.

Fun fact: Half of all U.S. power capacity added since 2020 or in the pipeline is located in just 116 counties. There are 1,627 counties with anything in them at all.

We need to start measuring publicly funded California infrastructure grifts in units of kiloPorsches, where one kiloPorsche is equivalent to enough waste that the contracting body (typically some government agency) could have instead purchased 1000 Porsches, and instead the contractor and/or their consultants, if they ran the grift efficiently, could purchase 1000 Porsches with public money. This project is 30 kiloPorsches. California's state budget is between 300 and 1500 kiloPorsches. It's a big club and you're not in it.

CA crude stocks have hit the lowest level seen since records started being kept by the California Energy Commission in 2005. There was a dip earlier in the year likely because two refineries closed down meaning less crude stocks were needed but this low seems new and maybe troubling.

Counterintuitive: Carbon capture projects are supposed to be a property value risk. New research on 25 U.S. projects and 555,938 home sales finds the opposite: homes within about 2.6 miles sold for roughly 3.9% more (about $8,600) after operations began.

CalMatters: California’s carbon market changed this year, and the next governor will inherit the fallout (There's this thing about CA leaders where they talk about being "leaders" in climate policy. I'm not sure what is meant by this unless it means making it uneconomical to produce goods around the rest of the country using any regulations other than Californian ones because it is too much trouble to have two production lines. But that isn't really "leadership", it's more similar coercion, of the Trumpian kind.) calmatters.org/environment/c…

From Jan-Jun 2026 South Korean jet fuel exports accounted for 64.2% of total California jet fuel imports. (From May the majority comes from the USGC with So Korea supplying nearly all the rest.)
