🍂 Cooler fall weather has arrived in the Central Valley, but don’t let a few rainy days fool you—wildfire danger is still very real. Some of California’s most devastating wildfires have struck in late fall. If you live in a wildfire-prone area, continue to create and maintain defensible space around your home. It is one of the most effective ways to protect your family, pets, and community. Here’s are some defensible space tips: 🔥 Zone 0 (0–5 feet): Clear away leaves, mulch, firewood, and anything flammable right next to your home. 🌿 Zone 1 (5–30 feet): Trim back plants, remove dead vegetation, and keep grass short. 🌳 Zone 2 (30–100 feet): Thin out excess vegetation and create space between trees and shrubs. Prepared communities recover stronger! Start the conversation with your neighbors about emergency plans, evacuation routes, and local resources—before disaster strikes. Let’s work together to keep our homes and animals safe. Good weather gives us time to prepare for the days when conditions may change. September is National Preparedness Month, and here in the Central Valley, wildfire preparedness remains important even when skies are clear and conditions are calm. When a Red Flag Warning is issued, every minute matters. Red Flag Warnings signal dangerous weather conditions that can contribute to extreme wildfire behavior. Monitor local alerts, follow guidance from emergency officials, and be prepared to act quickly if conditions change. Evacuating early can help you avoid being caught in worsening conditions or heavy evacuation traffic. Use this time to review your evacuation plan, know how you will safely evacuate your pets and animals, and make sure your emergency supplies are ready to go.
