When teachers provide a refuge from the “bad” in a student's life, they inspire hope and help students see that the past is not necessarily a prelude to the future.
Even large problems can be broken down into a series of steps. #worksmarter #lifetips #problemsolving
Powerful Keynote by @TyroneCHoward during #MTSSForum2018 We don't need sympathy we need empathy!
When you give everyone the same thing, we still have inequity. We must be unapologetic about giving kids what they NEED! Thank you @TyroneCHoward #MTSSForum18
A Trauma-Informed Compassionate Classroom
1. Create a safe space (emotionally and physically)
2. Establish predictability
3. Build a sense of trust
4. Offer choices
5. Stay regulated
Do not punish students for behaviors that are trauma symptoms.
To build that relationship, and connection with students, remember these three things: Every student wants to be seen, be heard and feel safe.
If there was ever a time to have unlimited compassion and understanding, it is now. Your students need your ❤️! @CCISD

How can we help children heal from trauma?
By checking our response to a situation. We can ask ourselves, Is my response to this situation helping the student to regulate? Am I helping to create a connection by the words and actions I am doing? Am I disarming fear?
This is not the "New Normal" (Olympia Therapy)
Taking care of ourselves both physically & mentally will give us the best chance for thriving after the storm of Covid19.
The is not the "New Normal" (Olympia Therapy)
The world & the human beings on it are in high stress & chaos of the unknown right now. This is not the “new normal” this is the period of time in between before we get to the other side.
This is not the "New Normal" (Olympia Therapy)
@ccisd We are all being forced to be vulnerable, to acknowledge our struggles and be real about our anxiety. With this vulnerability we can support ourselves & each other by taking a deep breath, and responding rather than reacting.
