Temperatures in the Mediterranean during the summer of 2026 were well above the climatic average. Energy stored in the sea may contribute to the development of torrential rainfall, such as that recorded in Catalonia. 1/3⬇️
The sea temperature off the coast of Catalonia was above 26°C, except along the northern coast where it was around 23–24°C, with a very significant gradient over a very short distance. These SST values are 3–3.5°C above normal levels for early October. 2/3⬇️
