I still can’t quite believe it, but I’ve been awarded a BA/Leverhulme Small Grants award (independent scholar) for my 2-year project ‘Skincare in Popular and Medical Culture, 1660–1800’! I’m so excited and so grateful! #18thcentury #medicalhumanities
A manuscript recipe detailing ‘A wash for ye face’, handwritten in black ink. The text reads: Take an ounce of Renish tartar and throw it in a very Clear fire when red hot take it out and Throwe it into a quart of soft water directly let it stand a day and a night then Filter it through a piece of towe then put in a littel piece of Campher and as much sweet oyl as will turn it whitish with shaking This without the oyl and campher fetches purple.
