Sometimes you do not enter a space because you already know enough. You enter because you have the curiosity—and the nerve—to learn in public. Waiting until you feel completely ready is often just a very elegant way of never beginning.
I arrived at Piece of Pie with far more questions than answers, embarrassed myself a few times, learned an absurd amount, and ended up doing things that, twelve weeks earlier, I did not even know how to name. 😂💻
I did not win a prize, but if Piece of Pie had rewarded the people who didn’t know a damn thing when they started, I would have swept every category. 🤣🤣🤣🏆
And perhaps that is a pretty decent victory: entering without knowing, enduring the discomfort, and leaving as someone different from the person who arrived. 💛🚀

I’m here to report that one of my best documented impulsive decisions made it into the Piece of Pie yearbook. 🥧
It started as “let’s see what happens.”
It ended as “oh damn, it actually happened.”
Thank you, @gimbalabs, for making the adventure officially documented. – at Manizales, Colombia
CIL Market Bridge made it into the Piece of Pie yearbook. 🥧
Which means there is now public evidence that I voluntarily got myself into this experiment, survived it, and somehow delivered something functional.
The project started from a very simple question:
what if, before selling blockchain as a magical answer, we started by understanding the business problem?
That question became CIL Market Bridge: an early beta that helps non-technical users explore whether blockchain actually deserves to be considered, or whether what comes first is something more basic — clarity, coordination, better records, a more sensible commercial path, or a much simpler solution.
I built it solo, with many questions, several bugs, rebellious payments, questionable screenshots, and a respectable amount of “breathe, Juanita, breathe.”
Also with a lot of learning, a lot of stubbornness, and that dangerous kind of curiosity that sometimes gets you into trouble… but also leads you to build things that did not exist before.
Here is the project in the @gimbalabs yearbook:

I am not sure this was sensible.
But it was real, it was mine, and I finished it. 🤍

I joined Piece of Pie without being a developer.
Twelve weeks later, CIL Market Bridge has a working beta, a final demo, a payment flow, real user testing, and a purpose that feels much clearer than when I started. 🚀
I did not build this because I knew exactly what I was doing.
I built it because I had a question:
what if blockchain was explained from the business problem first, instead of from the technology first?
So I started there.
As a journalist and communicator, I walked into a very technical room with more questions than certainty, zero Silicon Valley glamour, and a concerning amount of stubbornness. 🫠
There were bugs. 🐛
There were terrible screenshots.
There were payments that decided to develop a personality of their own. 💸
There were forms, repositories, commits, exhaustion, and several moments of “who told me to get into this when I was a relatively functional person?” 😅
There was also a video that had to be rescued with dignity, faith, and probably too many open tabs. 🧿
But there was real learning.
CIL Market Bridge does not try to sell blockchain as a magical answer. ✨
It helps people pause, look at the problem, and ask whether blockchain actually deserves to be explored.
Because sometimes it might.
And sometimes what comes first is clarity, coordination, better records, a better commercial path, or a much simpler solution.
Turns out, questions are also a pretty good place to start. 🧭
Welcome to the experiment. 🥧

WEEK 12
I joined Piece of Pie without being a developer.
I joined because I saw a problem: blockchain is often explained from the technical side first, while businesses usually start with something much more practical — a concern, a bottleneck, a trust issue, or a coordination problem.
That is why I built CIL Market Bridge.
It is now a working beta with:
Free Case Map
Combination-based result logic
Paid Beta Opportunity Path
Gumroad checkout
Tally request form
Real user testing
Human-reviewed case exploration
The app does not tell users: “you need blockchain.”
It helps them understand whether blockchain deserves to be explored at all.

A true builder
GM ☀️
Some days, building means shipping a feature.
Other days, it means fixing one stubborn button, reading logs, testing payments, and refusing to let a tiny bug win.
Progress is not always dramatic.
Sometimes it is just one less thing broken than yesterday.

This one hit me hard.
I have watched Linda pour her energy into this ecosystem for years. She helped so many projects find a voice, be seen, and helped the Cardano ecosystem stay informed and relevant to the outside world.
She has endured a lot of undeserved hate and never let that change her. She's a strong woman who wears her heart and values on her sleeve. She's caring, creative, skillful, classy, and funny. And we have been lucky to have her focus her energy on our ecosystem for all these years.
People need to grow, plants need to grow, we all need to grow to stay alive and thrive. And this is what growth looks like. When babies can no longer grow inside the womb, they come out. When plants run out of space, they need a bigger planter. They need more room to grow.
Running a stake pool in Cardano is challenging. And soon, with Leios pushing the specs for SPOs, and the proposed incentive changes around pledge and dormant ADA delegation, things will surely be shaken up across the SPO ecosystem. We'll probably be seeing more OG SPOs shutting down. That's my guess.
On the other hand, I know I say this a lot, but that's brcause I believe it to my core. Our ecosystem values science but underestimates the importance of the humanities. The cultural layer of Cardano is hurting because we don't treat it with the same seriousness and respect as we do the technical layer. And we will never reach the masses without it. We will never find product market fit without the people.
The world needs human connection more than ever before. Those who understand that will make the right turns and use technology to leverage it.
Don't take people for granted!
I'm grateful to have met some of the most amazing people in this journey. I will support you on whatever you do next, Linda.
Thank you! 💜
After 5 years, I’ve made the tough decision to shut down the MALU Stake Pool and retire as a DRep.
To everyone who supported the pool, or trusted me with their votes - THANK YOU!
Together we minted 7419 blocks and supported 30+ ISPOs and projects.
It’s been a fun ride and I’m incredibly grateful for the support that came from this community.
Please redelegate your ADA asap!
Thank you for everything 💙

#Cardano is a long way from being sustainable.
No single project will bring the tx volume we need to change that - and that's the whole point!
The volume we need will only be the result of many diverse systems calling Cardano home.
Every one of us needs to BE AMBITIOUS ENOUGH to understand that Cardano is the settlement layer for a global financial system.
5am.earth will bring an order of magnitude more txs to Cardano - and it will be the first among many driving the wave of real adoption that, so far, we've only talked about.
Now we need your support. 🙏 📷 Share our treasury proposal with your DRep: → 5am.earth/cardano-proposal

Do we want an ideologically pure ecosystem, or an economically viable one?
That is the uncomfortable question Cardano seems to be avoiding, even though it is already sitting in the room.
For years, we repeated — rightly — that Cardano was different: more rigorous, more decentralized, more patient, more serious. And yes, many of those things are still true.
But there is a less elegant truth:
Principles do not pay salaries.
Research papers do not bring in customers.
And good technology does not sell itself.
Cardano has real projects, useful tools, capable developers, and communities that have worked for years. Ideas that could generate jobs, education, institutional adoption, business opportunities, and real-world solutions beyond the crypto bubble.
The problem is that many of those projects learned how to survive inward.
To speak to the ecosystem.
To explain themselves to believers.
To present value to people who already know what Cardano is.
But outside, where the customers, institutions, companies, governments, and non-crypto users are, the conversation is different. And many projects do not know how to enter it.
Not because they lack value.
But because they do not know how to translate it.
For too long, we bought into the idea that building inward was enough.
It was not.
Building inward can strengthen a community. But it can also create a very pretty fishbowl where everyone knows each other, everyone quotes each other, everyone applauds each other… and nobody sells anything.
Now comes the collision with reality.
One part of the ecosystem fears that the treasury could become an open box to rescue private projects with no strategy, no metrics, and no accountability. That fear is valid. Nobody wants a budgetary piñata dressed up in nice slides and zero results.
But the opposite risk also exists: that in the name of purity, prudence, and “fiscal responsibility,” Cardano lets useful projects die because nobody dares to decide what is worth supporting.
Because one thing is protecting the treasury.
Another thing entirely is mummifying it.
An inactive treasury is not always prudence. Sometimes it is just fear with a good reputation.
And yes, not every project deserves funding. Not every idea is strategic. Not every shutdown is a systemic tragedy. Some projects did not find a market, did not know how to sell, failed to build a business model, or depended too much on internal attention.
But we also cannot pretend this can be fixed with speeches about decentralization while useful projects run out of oxygen.
Decentralization should not mean isolation.
Governance should not become paralysis.
And austerity cannot be the only growth strategy.
Cardano needs something harder than saying “yes” or “no” to spending.
It needs to learn how to distinguish between expense and strategy.
Funding everything would be irresponsible.
But refusing to fund visibility, adoption, communication, infrastructure, education, commercial expansion, and real connections with external markets can also be irresponsible. It just sounds more serious in a vote.
The point is not to rescue everything.
The point is to decide which pieces are strategic enough to help Cardano stop talking to itself and start competing outside.
Because if the technology is as good as we say it is, the next challenge is not to keep explaining it only to those who already believe in it.
The challenge is to take it where people still do not understand it, do not use it, and do not yet know it could help them.
That is the real test.
Not becoming the purest ecosystem in the industry.
But proving that we can be principled without being naive.
Decentralized without being chaotic.
Prudent without being cowardly.
And economically viable without selling our soul in the process.
That is the adult conversation.
And it arrived late, but it arrived.

This week, try spending less time organizing work and more time doing work.
Less:
• planning
• tweaking systems
• reading about building
More:
• coding
• writing
• testing
• shipping
