A provocative article from a former colleague of mine, Sarah Silverman (not that Sarah Silverman). Relevant beyond the teaching of Speak. Lots to think about here.

Hanging out with my daughter, drinking hot tea at Starbucks (don't judge it is open) and readying myself for a strong finish to this year--several of my favorites in one place, I love learning and love spending time with my daughter, even in silence as we both work.
Every Friday my students and I make an entry in our gratitude journal--5 people, places, events for which you are grateful this week. My entry: children home for holidays safe, healthy, and happy, big family Thanksgiving meal, and the start of the holiday season. #blessed

A major goal for me is to foster a love for literature in my students which requires space in class for choice reading and reading for pleasure. The far majority of my students will not be English majors, but I hope they will be life long readers. #MondayMotivation – at Birmingham, AL
