The FDA has cleared Roche Diagnostics' Elecsys pTau217 blood test to help doctors evaluate adults 55 and older who already have memory or thinking concerns. It is not a screening test for healthy adults and does not predict who will develop Alzheimer's disease. ltcnews.com/articles/fda-cle…

We've long said that our cause has incredible momentum, and this is a great example of what we mean. This time last week, we had two FDA-cleared blood tests to help diagnose Alzheimer's. Now, we have FOUR options. See below for our full statement.
Breaking News: Today, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) cleared a fourth Alzheimer’s blood test for people experiencing signs or symptoms of cognitive impairment. This is the second blood-based biomarker test to be cleared in the past week. Read our statement: bit.ly/3SMm6KO.

📁MFRR #030B — A Ruling That Should Have Changed Everything @CMAorg @wassdoc In 2013, a lawsuit changed what Medicare is legally required to cover. The case was Jimmo v. Sebelius. For years, care had been denied under a false rule: if a patient wasn't improving, Medicare wouldn't pay. Families were told "there's nothing more we can do," when the truth was "there's nothing more that will make them better" — as if those were the same thing. The court said they aren't. Maintaining someone. Slowing decline. Preventing a fall, a wound, a loss of function from getting worse — that is skilled, coverable care. A physician warned in 2017, writing about culture change, that as facilities took on sicker patients for better margins, enthusiasm for person-centered, maintenance-focused care quietly declined. COVID proved him right at a scale no one wanted. So we're left with a quiet contradiction. The law says maintaining someone counts. The money says declining is what gets funded. If a facility or a Medicare denial ever cites "no improvement" as the reason care is being cut, that is the exact argument this case struck down. Ask what Jimmo means for your loved one's care before you accept "nothing more we can do." A ruling that says maintenance matters means little if the system funding it still says otherwise. #MossFiles Ask Better Questions.

WHO to launch updated Risk Reduction Guidelines on dementia In 2019, The WHO issued guidelines on risk reduction in line with evidence that modifiable risk factors through life course interventions can delay or reduce cognitive decline and dementia.  Since their publication, the scientific evidence base has expanded, including multidomain interventions, population-level policies and additional risk factors. In light of strengthening evidence, WHO developed updated dementia risk reduction guidelines. The guidelines will be launched on 16 July during a webinar taking place at 15:30-17:00 CEST.
