Mouth sores during chemotherapy can affect more than comfort. They may make eating and drinking difficult and, in some cases, disrupt treatment schedules. Understanding this possible side effect before chemotherapy begins can help patients feel more prepared.

Mouth sores (called oral mucositis) often develop early during chemotherapy. Symptoms may begin with tenderness or redness in the mouth and progress to painful, debilitating sores. Because these symptoms can worsen quickly, recognizing early changes and reporting them to your care team can help address problems sooner. Learning about mouth sores and proactive options such as oral cryotherapy BEFORE treatment begins can help patients feel more prepared for the first weeks of chemotherapy.

Not all chemotherapy treatments affect the mouth in the same way. Some chemotherapy drugs and treatment combinations are more likely to cause mouth sores (oral mucositis) than others. For patients receiving these treatments, mouth symptoms may appear early in treatment and can worsen during the first weeks of chemotherapy. Patients and care teams should discuss the risks of mouth sores BEFORE treatment begins. Learn more chemomouthpiece.com #OralMucositis #Chemotherapy #CancerCare #PatientEducation
