New Year, new term! As I took the oath of office for my second term as Council Member for District 14 in the Bronx, I couldn’t help but reflect on the incredible body of work we have been able to accomplish in our first two short years.
In the past few weeks, I experienced how my neighbors had to either be treated or transported by NYPD b/c EMS was unable to arrive in a timely matter.
Untimely response can cost a life.
At our recent Committee on Fire & Emergency Management Hearing, I asked w/ deep respect:
My statement on the MTA Eagle Teams:
Deploying MTA EAGLE teams in low-income communities is not the answer to fare evasion—it turns already frustrating, unreliable bus commutes into opportunities to intimidate working-class New Yorkers and criminalize poverty.

"We knew something was going to happen. It was only a matter of time. And this is this is what it is. It's recklessness by a law enforcement agency that is hiring thousands of untrained, unqualified agents to terrorize our community," said Pierina Sanchez of the NYC Council.

This weekend’s storm had a major impact on blood donations — we lost around 1,000 units of blood that we were counting on collecting.
If you’re eligible to donate, please stop by and give when you can ➡️ bit.ly/44i1vQF

We’re expecting dangerous coastal flooding, strong winds and potential power outages through the weekend.
Take this storm seriously. Stay alert, avoid unnecessary travel, and text 333-111 for realtime updates.

Love to see it! Loew’s Paradise is one of the Bronx’ most beautiful assets, vacant for far too long, right off @FordhamRoadNYC in the heart of my district.
After many false starts, excited to see this proposal and the team’s commitment to community access & inclusion.
NEW: Nearly a century ago, the historic Loew’s Paradise Theatre opened in the Bronx. Later this year, the New York City landmark movie palace will be finding new life as the Paradise Performing Arts Center.

S/o to General Welfare Chair @crystalforbk for continuing to spotlight solutions to improve the City FHEPS program, which is a lifeline for so many New Yorkers!
TODAY, @NYCCouncil is hearing four CityFHEPS-related bills. New CSS research shows the program works well for those who can access and use it, while highlighting administrative changes that could help move more people out of the shelter system.

The previous TPT program was problematic.
Through the SAFER Homes Act, we can deliver for NYers, while correcting the harms of the past.
How? By eliminating the “block pickup” + creating a better system to identify the “worst of the worst” owners.
