Irish Times not in my good books atm but two articles below really summarize my own opinions on the budget and what was lacking from general media discourse this week ———————— There’s a good chance Ireland will come to regret this boomtime period as a missed opportunity irishtimes.com/business/econ… David McWilliams: We have just seen a perfect example of Ireland’s fiscal incontinence irishtimes.com/opinion/2026/…

Day 11 Irish Times delighted to report that my doggy business is closing down. But yet still not a mention of the latest Dublins social housing statistics. Funny world we live in. Which should be bigger news ?

Gerry Thornley: World Rugby is wasting its time trying to break America 👉 Last Saturday’s game was one of several instances of rugby dipping its toes into the US since it was awarded the 2031 World Cup 👉 Since the dawn of the professional era, the US has been considered the game’s great untapped rugby gold mine. If anything, though, the sport has fallen further adrift there Read more: irishtimes.com/sport/rugby/2…

When the Irish corporation tax boom tapers we will look back on the fact that we didnt diversify our economy or build world leading infrastructure as a greater sin than the Celtic Tiger failures that facilitated the housing bubble

The increase in traffic in Dublin when the schools come back is mind blowing. Couple of school buses would go far

What's the appropriate hurdle for venture? Over the last 10 years: S&P was ~4.05x / 15.1% IRR QQQ was ~6.39x / 20.4% IRR FAANG was ~8.33x / 23.6% IRR S&P would be a 90th+ percentile fund and QQQ/FAANG would both be 95th+ percentile. And fully liquid.
Net TVPI for venture funds that are 8, 9, and 10 years old. Median = total miss. 75th percentile is meh. Top 10% is getting good, top 5% is real good, top 1% is bonkers. Most startups fail --> most VC funds will also fail (to generate good returns)

It’s hilarious that the captain in football wears an armband acknowledging he / she is the captain. Kind of sums up the negative aspects of the sport.

They don’t want Jude in the squad a month ago and per this mornings papers/podcasts he’s Bobby Charlton. They make it hard for themselves.

Dear American friends. Yes, that's it. We're terrified because your very best player is the fourth best player on the seventh best team in the fourth best league. Has nothing to do with you thinking stepping on an opponent's leg is fine or that your president is a corrupt maniac.
All this crying from Europe is because of one thing and one thing only: The rest of the world is terrified that we’re getting good at soccer

Once again blown away at the amount of time allegedly highly successful / busy people have to live tweet their stream of consciousness on the topic du jour. Today’s dish: Trump red card interference Last weeks chefs special: fucking AC

Unless society is willing to have the hard conversations about the waste, fraud and abuse in spending in govs worldwide, democracy is doomed to fail. Happy Thursday!

We should have fought a war against the Scots for sole access to the bagpipes. Harp don’t hit at a major tournament.
