Everyone at the State House loves Ruth and Tammy (and their coworkers). The West Wing Cafe is more than just a place for us to grab a quick bite - it's somewhere everyone is welcomed and valued.
The disability community is full of special relationships. This is one of them. Ruth works at a cafe inside the Rhode Island State House. Tammy is her job coach. After 8 years together, they're still going strong. Serving State House staff & lawmakers inside the West Wing Cafe.

The House today voted to approve legislation from @TinaSpearsRI to establish a “PURPLE alert” system to help quickly find missing adults with serious disabilities whose health and safety is at risk. “As recent events have shown, this is a missing piece in our statewide system of care for the health and safety of adults with disabilities,” said Rep. Spears, who serves as the executive director of @CPNRI, which represents providers who support people with disabilities. “This legislation brings together law enforcement, disability advocates, media outlets and state agencies in a collaborative effort to build a system that works similarly to the alert programs that we already have to get out the word to our communities about a missing person whose disability and the circumstances of their disappearance place them in danger.” More info: rilegislature.gov/pressrelea…

What a legislative session! 💪 Our community came together stronger than ever to ask for investments for all Rhode Islanders. Together, we made progress and still have plenty to advocate towards. 💚 Thank you to every legislator who took time to listen to us and then took action. 👂 We look forward to more in 2024!

The time to pass these bills is now. Pass S0782 & H5987, and make our state stronger and better together.
100,000 Rhode Islanders need support and they need it now. 🚨 People with disabilities, seniors, children and families and more have waited far too long for investments. It is time. Let’s pass S0782 & H5987. 💪 Our State will be better because of it. 💚
