Winner so far, hat tip to @MJBurrows - the Tapas Budget, lots of fussy little measures that add up to nothing very satisfying

A budget that delivered absolutely nothing for anyone. You can't keep on peddling this nonsense @D_G_Alexander . Even if you do turn off your replies...
A Labour Budget that delivers for Scotland.

Grim outlook for wages in the coming two years - essentially no growth in real terms, according to the OBR, and then only rising through 2029 to reach a mere 0.5% in 2030. Another potential reason to get an election in early before the misery really kicks in.

I'll summarise the budget for those that missed it. Basically it was "fuck you". That's about it. #Budget2026

💡Essential Budget pre-reading for every MP and journalist from @OBR_UK while they await the EFO 📣TL;DR: age related spending is making the welfare state chronically unaffordable. assets.publishing.service.go…
Our next Economic and fiscal outlook will be published on 28 October 2026. It will be published on gov.uk/government/organisati… after the Chancellor has presented the Budget to Parliament. Today's the day when we will no doubt be told that ever decreasing group with 'the broadest shoulders ' need to step up again as politicians are addicted to spending like an addict and their crystal meth.

Devolution is an unmitigated disaster. And a massively expensive one. The work of fools.
Great to write for @ArguablyMag on why we need to push powers out from the centre, in England and Scotland alike. Rarely have the jigsaw pieces for devolution been so well-aligned👇🏻

Probably
Budget Day will be bad, what comes next will be worse. Burnham will call an election, Tories will win back seats lost to Lib Dems who will disappear again, Reform will set a record for most second places and win fewer than 20 seats, SNP will be rampant in Scotland, Burnham will have a majority of c. 90.

By increasing tax on work and employment. These people really have no clue.
Visiting Methil today, meeting the apprentices at a yard that a couple of years ago was on the brink of closure, only confirms to me what’s possible with a Labour Government dedicated to supporting the kind of communities Andy describes in this speech.

This is a classic example of data being published that pre Elon owning X we simply would not have seen
The Economist put the chart on a log scale. I wonder why they did that? Here it is on a normal one.

Same data shown on a linear plot. Why they would use a log plot? (Because a log plot helps hide how bad the problem is.)

Wow, this is what Yemen looked like in the 1960s under British rule. That was over half a century ago, but it looked decades more advanced than Yemen does today. It’s almost unbelievable compared to what the country has become. And it’s a testament to how quickly a country can collapse once Islam reigns supreme.
