Something special happened at FSU today. Representatives from the Florida Department of Education (FLDOE), Florida Athletic Coaches Association (FACA), Florida Coaches Coalition (FCC), Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA), and the Florida Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (FIAAA) all came together to discuss coaches' certification and training in Florida schools. We discussed the current challenges coaches face and, in conjunction with the Coaches' Tool Chest, proposed ways to improve coaching standards and training and to simplify the process for coaches and athletic directors. Much work is needed, but it starts with an agreement and understanding that change is necessary.
