The Miami Heat are now 3-6 to open the season.
And nowhere are their issues more apparent and significant than on the wing.

The NBA’s got an injury problem. Stars and players who are critical to a team’s success are out for extended periods.
With nearly 60 players listed as out since Oct. 1, what’s really at the root of it?

We need to take a moment to appreciate the full context of Wembanyama's output tonight. He had a Wilt statline crossing the 50-point, 20-rebound, 5-block treshold. The fewest minutes Wilt ever did that in was 45. Wemby did it in 34 minutes. And he only hit one three, so it's not like it's a modern basketball thing that helped him get his scoring up so high. This was just old school post work and pick-and-roll madness. Wilt stuff.
Even if you loop in a bunch of other players and cut it down to 40 points, only Bob Lanier ever did it in under 40 minutes (38). Wembanyama did this mostly through foul baiting in the post. It's a monumental achievement in his development.

This is the hardest shot taken in the NBA over the last seven days, according to the league's new public facing shot difficulty data. Toronto Raptors forward RJ Barrett's jumper here against the Lakers had just a 6.5 expected FG%. He drained it.

Trade J Dubb? Put Shai in bubble wrap and call it a gap year? The Thunder can both grieve and not panic over the injury devastation that befell them last week. Last night in Cleveland showed what picking up the pieces looks like @TheAthleticNBA nytimes.com/athletic/7749774…

After dropping their first four games, the Miami Heat have won two in a row. But they embark on a five-game West Coast trip starting tonight.
What needs to improve over the next nine days?

"[Miami] emptied the cupboard quite a bit to get Giannis to town in the first place.
Giannis is not trying to wait... the gap between where they are currently and where they wanted to be at this stage is kind of troublingly wide."
@sam_amick answers questions about potential Heat trades after their 1-4 start to the season.
Getting a human on the phone for ANY reason is dishearteningly difficult, whether its scheduling an appointment, checking in prescriptions or, in this case, applying for a job.
This is such a bleak story about what it's like to try to land a job right now. nytimes.com/interactive/2026…

“Inside the NBA” changed what a sports studio show could be. And Ernie Johnson was the conductor of the train. Johnson said Wednesday that this will be his last year hosting the show, after 37 years. He’s the best to ever do it. Free, in @TheAthletic:

Grim showing from @FulhamFC today against Palace. 75% possession and nothing to show for it. No attacking plan to speak of, didn't punish Palace's lack of ambition in the first half. Very poor all around.

Conservative donor Miriam Adelson--Dallas Mavs owner--tops all sports owners (and most other individuals) at $67M.
