First time at Speaker Don Scott’s Black & White Gala and I got to meet Virginia’s first woman Governor, Abigail Spanberger! 🇺🇸
I haven’t listened to NPR since Election Day 2024, but this morning I listened for my entire commute.
Happy Steve Kornacki Day to all who celebrate! 🗳️ 🇺🇸
Election night deserve two TVs, just like Sunday football 😂
Need a ride on Election Day in Hampton Roads? 🗳️

Oct 27, 1904: The New York City subway opened. The mayor drove the first train and refused to give up the controls.
The city's streets were jammed with horses, carts, and elevated trains that dropped soot on the people below. Planners decided to go underground. Workers dug and blasted through Manhattan for four years. Dozens of men were killed building it.
The first line ran about nine miles from City Hall up to 145th Street in Harlem. The mayor was George McClellan Jr., son of the Civil War general. At the opening, he was supposed to start the first train and then hand over the controls to the motorman. Instead he kept driving, mile after mile, while officials grew nervous.
By evening, over 100,000 people had paid a nickel to ride.
The first station, under City Hall, was the most beautiful in the system, with tiled arched ceilings, skylights, and brass chandeliers. It closed in 1945 because its curved platform was too short for newer trains. You can still catch a glimpse of it if you stay on the 6 train when it loops around at the end of the line.
Today the system has over 470 stations and carries millions of people a day.
Public transit should not only be safe and efficient, but it can also be fun!
We had a great time decorating our Haunted Trolley for the annual Armed Services YMCA Fall Festival in Virginia Beach.
And the kids loved seeing Mr. Harry, our skeleton operator!

I got to see Dr. Larry Sabato tonight in Norfolk! I read his book, A More Perfect Constitution, for AP U.S. History back in 2011/12, which really got me thinking about how our governmental systems can and should change. And I didn’t know he was from the 757!
Just like the Cowboys earlier this week, the Washington Commanders should be embarrassed by this tie in overtime. Up by double digits during the game, and yet terrible game management. New leadership is desperately needed before we throw away Jayden’s talent.
I rode my bike around Fort Monroe this morning before the rain started. It’s truly an under appreciated asset of Hampton Roads with tremendous opportunities. And I got to see the new sculpture of Virginia’s first African American family at the African Landing Memorial.

Sonny Styles is the real deal on the Commanders. Washington has the beginnings of a generational player! #RaiseHail
I just watched Joey Chestnut 🌭 eat 40 pancakes in 10 minutes (a new record!) at the second annual World Pancake Eating Championship in Williamsburg! 🥞
Exciting news for transit in Virginia!
Yesterday, HJ28’s first meeting took place in Richmond, launching a two-year study of public transit in Hampton Roads. We’ll study sustainable and predictable funding and regional coordination among HRT, Suffolk Transit, and WATA! 🚌⛴️🚈🚎
This was a tough loss for the Commanders. Jayden’s injury was bad, our defense (especially the secondary) was dreadful, and the offense still can’t execute explosive plays successfully. I don’t want to write off the season yet in week 2, but it’s not looking good #HTTC #RaiseHail
Antonio Williams and Sonny Styles played the like they’d been in the NFL for years. Jayden Daniels is still the GOAT and Stefon Diggs is good. The Commanders have some good qualities and athleticism on this team, but there’s A LOT to address. #RaiseHail
The Commanders offensive line is some of the worst I’ve seen, but our receivers are also not getting open. There’s a lot of work to do, but the defense is showing some good signs. #RaiseHail
