⚠️ We are warning Calgarians about fraudulent phone calls from scammers impersonating members of the Calgary Police Service’s senior officers’ team. 📞 In many cases, callers claim to be investigating the person they have contacted or leave a voicemail identifying themselves as a CPS officer or senior member. The phone number displayed on caller ID may also appear to be a legitimate CPS number. Remember, CPS officers will never contact you & request money, gift cards, cryptocurrency, banking information or financial cards as part of an investigation. Protect yourself from police impersonation scams: 🔹 Be suspicious of unexpected calls or voicemails from someone claiming to be a police officer, Deputy Chief, Chief or other CPS member, particularly if you are told you are under investigation or pressured to act quickly. 🔹 Do not provide personal information, banking details, passwords or identification documents to an unsolicited caller. 🔹 Do not trust caller ID alone. A displayed phone number can be spoofed to appear as though a call is coming from CPS. 🔹 Never send money, gift cards or cryptocurrency to someone claiming to be a police officer. 🔹 If you are unsure whether a call is legitimate, hang up and contact CPS directly using a verified phone number. 🔹 Talk to family & friends about police impersonation scams so they know what to watch for. Anyone who has suffered a financial loss or had their personal information compromised as a result of fraud can report it to the Calgary Police Service non-emergency line at 403-266-1234 or contact Crime Stoppers.
