Hey .@WPT you might get more viewers if you would promote the fact that last years Bay 101 Shooting Stars is airing on CBS Sports. Kinda, right before this years event. Go promotions. 🙄

Chairman of Joint Chiefs Gen. Dan Caine to Sen. Slotkin, per letter we obtained: “The Joint Force has no plans to send Federal military personnel or Federalized members of the National Guard to polling places during the 2026 elections. Likewise, the Joint Force has no plans to use such personnel to seize ballots, voting machines, or other election-related material. I have neither received nor anticipate receiving any unlawful order concerning the role of the Joint Force in the upcoming November 2026 midterm elections.”

Trump’s media company today began selling early access to the president’s posts on Truth Social for up to $100k a month to financial institutions. I talked to former SEC lawyers, who see the service as a violation of insider trading laws. And a Wall Street executive, who told me: "It's insane. I can say for myself and 200 of my friends in finance, we're not getting anywhere near this. In another administration, this would be considered criminal.” This person wasn’t surprised 12 other major players in finance I reached out to about the service refused to talk, fearing they’d end up in Trump’s crosshairs. npr.org/2026/08/01/nx-s1-591…

BREAKING: Trump's Kennedy Center just canceled its free public tours for the first time in 50 years — because an 87-year-old volunteer told the truth about its Trump-era collapse. An 87-year-old tour guide told the OBVIOUS truth about the Kennedy Center. Donald Trump's response was to punish everyone. For the first time in five decades, the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts has paused its beloved free tour program — and the timing makes the reason unmistakable. The move came directly after longtime volunteer Sandy Weiswasser gave a candid interview to the New York Times describing exactly what Trump's takeover has done to America's national theater. According to the NY Times article she was quoted in, “Once she was among 140 volunteer guides who gave tours in 10 languages to up to 400,000 people a year. Last week on her Monday shift, only five out of more than a dozen tour guides showed up, and only three people took a tour.” "This place used to be really thriving and busy and crowded," the 87-year-old Weiswasser told the Times. "Now it's a black hole." That's it. That's the offense. An elderly volunteer, describing what she's personally witnessed after decades of service, told a reporter the honest truth. Days later, the Kennedy Center's director of the volunteer program quietly announced a "temporary pause" on tours — the exact outcome three separate volunteers had privately worried about before the memo announcing the pause was even circulated, anticipating retaliation. Petty vindictiveness is who Trump is. Not content with seizing control of one of America's most beloved cultural institutions, purging its board, and driving away artists who refused to perform under his takeover, he's now apparently willing to punish an entire volunteer program, silencing public access to the building itself, because one honest 87-year-old described what everyone can already see. And remember, this is the same Kennedy Center Trump previously tried to shut down entirely for two years under the guise of "renovations," after his own name change proposal drove away performers in protest. His name was eventually scraped off the building's wall — and now the facade remains hidden under a massive tarp, a fittingly literal metaphor for an institution being suffocated from within. America's national theater used to belong to everyone. Now it's become a monument to one man's ego and his intolerance for even the gentlest criticism, even from an 87-year-old grandmother simply telling visitors what she's seen with her own eyes. Please like and share.

I really like when local television stations take the news broadcast out in the field at local events. Much like KTVN did in the 80’s when it was so much more difficult. I have air checks. 😀. It was fun, and needed now more than ever @ktvn @krnv @KOLO8

This fact check is absolutely accurate. I sat in on the entire presentation process. There are plenty of reasons this project should not go forward. The trump post is a lie. I would not be surprised if he breaks ground AGAIN to desecrate another of our country’s historic sites.

Fact Check: The National Capital Planning Commission (NCPC) did not pass an 8-1 approval for President Trump's proposed 250-foot Triumphal Arch; instead, the panel voted 9 to 1 to merely advance the project to its next review phase. The 9-1 vote required the Trump administration to address critical gaps and "do some homework" regarding the monument's impact on local traffic and flight paths before receiving final approval.

New statement from Scott Pelley:   There has never been anything in America like 60 Minutes.   The Sunday tradition is the most successful program of any kind in history. For more than a decade, its innovative growth on every major online platform has extended its reach to countless millions around the world. This spring, at the end of our 58thseason, 60 Minutes grew rapidly with an unheard-of 9% jump in viewers on CBS.   “60” has been the number-one program in America for decades because our beloved audience finds integrity, quality, and humanity in our stories. When stewardship of the program passed to my colleagues and me, our responsibility was to expand energetically into a new age of media technology while preserving the values our audience expects. Now, the new owner of our network is casting this legend aside, apparently to curry a moment of favor with the Trump administration.   The waste is heartbreaking.   Last month, 60 Minutes lost its DNA when our entire senior leadership and two of our best on-air correspondents were cruelly fired without cause. Good people were silenced because they stood up for our audience. They stood for fairness against the forces of political bias; they stood for professionalism against chaos.   For my part, new management has instructed me to inject falsehoods and bias into a politically sensitive story. I’ve been told to include assertions that are unverified. To date, in every case, I have managed to ignore these instructions or refuse them. Recently, politicians have been invited to choose correspondents for interviews on the broadcast. Giving politicians control over 60 Minutes interviews is not how this is done. Finally, incompetence and unprofessionalism in the new management have wreaked havoc. In a case involving one of my stories, the entire program came within 19 minutes of not getting on the air at all.   At 60 Minutes, we have fought harder than anyone knows to save the program that became an American icon. We owed that to our millions of viewers. I am deeply moved by the thousands of wishes we have received to “keep up the good fight.” Most of the men and women of CBS News are still in that fight. But now the collapse of values at the top has become untenable. The leadership of 60 Minutes is no longer recognizable. The principles I hold dear are gone, and so I must leave as well.   I depart after 37 years at CBS with one emotion—a heart brimming with gratitude for the men and women of CBS News who encouraged and enriched my work, very often at the risk of their own lives. I pray for a day when those people and their ideals are honored again—a day when sanity, competence, and courage return.   Scott Pelley

NEW: Backstory on the drama at CBS News tonight... Bari Weiss, Nick Bilton, Tom Cibrowski, and CBS HR invited Scott Pelley to a meeting at 5pm ET tonight to discuss a path forward after his vocal protest earlier this week in the 60 Minutes all-hands. The two sides did not find common ground. Bari & Co. were left with sense that Scott was not open minded about reaching detente; meanwhile, Scott maintained strong frustrations with leadership. Scott left meeting and was told they'd have an update on his employment in a matter of minutes... instead, Bari and her team deliberated for several hours. At around 9:30 p.m., Nick Bilton, the new 60 Minutes E.P., sent this letter to Scott (see tweet below) in which he tells him he has been terminated "for cause." He also sent a memo to staff (see tweet below that). The language in Nick's memo suggests a legal fight coming. No response yet from Pelley.
#BREAK: CBS NEWS has terminated Scott Pelley's contract.
