If you think I'm posting too much about how the Democrats got caught attempting to start a Civil War you might not realize how big of a deal it is that the Democrats got caught attempting to start a Civil War.
It's a really big deal!

Dear Ukraine Flag Retards -
There are no laws on the books that say either the Department of Defense or Elon Musk are legally mandated to provide Starshield/Starlink services to Ukraine. I know you are severely retarded, but you are going to have to learn to cope.

I’ve decided to support @GrassFedBitcoin’s proposal for a 6-month rolling coinbase maturity extension (CBME) until RDTS expiry, despite my preference for 1 year fixed. I want to explain why, because I don’t think this is nearly the concession it might appear to be.
The objective has always been to discourage short-term, profit-driven hashrate from exploiting the network. The question is how best to accomplish that, and I think the rolling design matters more than people are giving it credit for.
The original 1-year proposal had a fixed expiration tied to RDTS. That creates a significant weakness: a block mined the day before RDTS expires could mature the following day. As we approach expiration, the deterrent progressively weakens.
With 6 months rolling, every block mined while the rule is active carries the full 6-month maturity requirement, including those mined immediately before expiration. This creates a substantial overhang of immature rewards extending six months beyond RDTS, for an effective period of up to 18 months. It’s a shorter lockup per block, but a more consistent deterrent throughout the entire period.
Now consider the consensus problem.
There’s broad support for 1 year, but there’s a meaningful difference between ~55% support and 75% support. We can continue arguing over whether the additional six months of maturity would produce materially better outcomes, but the reality is that nobody has concrete evidence to settle that question.
Meanwhile, we risk deadlocking the 6-month and 1-year camps until the existing 45-day fixed extension expires, or 45-day rolling takes effect. That would be a substantially worse outcome than either proposal.
Six months rolling gives the 1-year camp much of what it wants while requiring the 45-day camp to accept a significant increase in maturity. And let’s be clear, six months is still brutal for short-term miners. It doesn’t gradually acclimate the leeches to the network by easing restrictions as expiration approaches. It maintains the deterrent right up to the end, effectively easing them out rather than easing them in.
I understand the hardliner position because I largely share it. But there’s a difference between compromising on the objective and compromising on the means of achieving it.
I’d rather secure a strong deterrent with broad consensus than risk losing the entire effort over a marginal difference in expected outcomes that nobody can reliably quantify.
We have other serious problems demanding our attention, particularly the growing amount of spam making its way into mined blocks. I’d like us to resolve this and get back to fighting those battles.
Replying to @aaronburnett
We definitely need to explain this in detail. Veterans of the cellular industry look at the chess board of existing pieces and don’t see a solution.
They don’t understand that SpaceX is developing entirely new pieces that fundamentally alter the strategic landscape.
Interesting- the 13.6M subscribers is just co diners, and Gwynne said that enterprise and government sales revenues should EACH surpass consumer revenue in the future.
Elon kicking ass on this call. Putting him in front of a camera and letting him talk was a great idea.
20GW of power next year for computer would be great.
Elon: I think revenue for Starlink will be somewhat proportionate to the increase in bandwidth
I think this is the disagreement that @TMFAssociates has with Elon
I definitely think there’s a limited number of consumer users available.
Elon seems great at finding use cases tho

When I was 11/12 my dad got a job in Mendoza, Argentina and my family moved down there. I was put in school in Spanish, and we tried to do the whole expat family thing. This was 2007. We were affluent Americans. I became fluent quickly, my sister and I could fully blend.
When the global economy crashed it whiplashed worse poorly managed countries like Argentina which was already struggling with inflation. There was a significant amount of blame placed on America as a country and gringos living in country as its representatives. Of the seven other American families in our suburb, five of them had armed, violent robberies and rapes happen in their homes in 2008. I learned much later from @Lady_Astor that the gringo blame was strongly encouraged by Argentina's (Cristina) Kirchner government.
My family had a gunman inside the walls incident and we fled the country. The police, who we'd already bribed to come if we called (this was standard) wouldn't protect us. The other American families had been there longer and were better established than us were barely better off. Many had to flee. The experience has led me to be strongly against doing the international expat thing. Assuming that your native neighbors Argentina will not see you as the most viable possible target should any shocks to the system occur is a potentially fatal mistake. It doesn't matter how much money you have or how well set up you are, when things get even moderately bad, you are an outsider. And the place will eat you alive.
Do I have any doubt that @itsjacksworld has had fun as a tourist in South America for six years? No. I'm sure it's been great. He's never been there for a major stability shock, like an economic crash. He clearly doesn't have a family and does not know the true stakes of being an expat. He doesn't actually own property down there (more on the flimsiness of "owning property" in a country like Argentina next time), but I hope he comes to realize this through maturity, not experience.
Easy to post a concrete cube house near Bariloche for updoots online. Totally unadvisable to become a real expatriate with skin in the game (a wife, a family, not a kid on vacation)
In Jackson Hole or Big Sky, $2.5M gets you a condo. In Patagonia, it gets you a brand-new glass mansion that looks like it was built for a Bond movie.
Every room faces a huge glacial lake. Double-height glass walls and a stone fireplace that runs to the ceiling.
7,700 sq ft surrounded by native forest. 5 suites, each with a walk-in closet, and a mudroom built for ski gear.
20 minutes to the biggest ski resort in South America. 25 minutes to the airport.
Wyoming and Montana aren’t a true escape anymore. Patagonia is.
