Canada’s Christian Roots: Key Historical and Cultural Foundations • The preamble to the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms states that Canada is “founded upon principles that recognize the supremacy of God and the rule of law.” • European settlement was primarily by French Catholics (New France) and British Protestants; churches founded or ran most early schools, hospitals, and social institutions, with denominational school rights protected in the 1867 Constitution. • Canada’s official motto on the coat of arms, A Mari Usque Ad Mare (“From sea to sea”), comes from Psalm 72:8. • The national anthem O Canada includes the line “God keep our land glorious and free!” (with the French version also referencing faith). • Statutory holidays include Christmas Day (nationwide) and Good Friday (widely observed). • The federal Lord’s Day Act (1906–1985), promoted by Protestant churches (especially Presbyterians via the Lord’s Day Alliance), restricted commercial activity, sports, and work on Sundays until it was struck down by the Supreme Court as a violation of freedom of religion. • Most of Canada’s earliest universities and colleges were founded or controlled by Christian denominations (e.g., Anglican King’s Colleges, Catholic Laval and St. Francis Xavier, Methodist Victoria and Mount Allison, Baptist Acadia and McMaster, and others). At Confederation, the large majority of degree-granting institutions were church-related. • Early Canadian law, marriage rules, and social norms reflected Christian (mainly Protestant and Catholic) moral traditions drawn from British and French colonial sources. Monuments, shrines, and historic sites: • Notre-Dame Basilica (Montreal) — major Gothic Revival National Historic Site and Catholic landmark founded by the Sulpicians. • Cathedral Basilica of Notre-Dame de Québec — oldest church in Canada, on the site of Champlain’s chapel, and a National Historic Site. • Martyrs’ Shrine (Midland, Ontario) — national Catholic shrine to the Canadian Martyrs (17th-century Jesuit missionaries). • Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupré Basilica, Notre-Dame-du-Cap, and Saint Joseph’s Oratory (Montreal) — major Catholic pilgrimage sites. • Canadian National Vimy Memorial (France) — features clear Christian imagery, including a figure of Canada mourning her sons (echoing the Mater Dolorosa / Virgin Mary), a sacrificial figure referencing the biblical Isaac and the Crucifixion, and virtues such as Faith, Hope, and Charity. • Numerous National Historic Sites of churches (Anglican, Catholic, Presbyterian, United, and mission churches), many in Gothic Revival style, across the country, including examples in Ottawa, St. John’s, and Western Canada; Parliament Hill’s Gothic Revival buildings reflect the same architectural tradition common to Christian institutions of the era.

Given all the comments online today in Canada (regarding a video of an interaction that occurred in London, Ontario) claiming Canada is not a “Christian country” I asked Grok to put together a list that explains our Christian roots:

I am a Canadian. I demand a referendum before the Government of Canada agrees to impose a fourth level of government on Canadians without our consent.

How long will this theatre go on? While Canadians can’t afford food and homes, Mr. Carney has distracted for months with big talk about “Associate Membership” with Europe. Now, Europe has rejected it. For the next two days, we will be distracted again from the cost-of-living crisis with wall-to-wall media coverage on yet another grand theatrical meeting to sign a bunch of meaningless declarations filled with big words (catalyze, anyone?) and promises to meet again to talk more. No one’s mortgage or grocery bill will come down. We already have a free trade deal with Europe, Mr. Carney. Get the 9 countries who have not ratified it to do so. And get EU countries to let our beef into the continent and cancel their planned carbon tariff on Canada. Otherwise stop wasting your time and our money. Both are running out.

Much needed @MikeGuglielmin
No Canadian family should ever have to fear for their lives behind their own front door. My Bill C-293, the Safe at Home Act, would make violent home invasion a distinct criminal offence, with a five-year mandatory minimum sentence, a maximum life sentence, and reverse-onus bail. Your home should be your safe haven. Violent offenders must be held accountable.

Three family members were shot and a fourth struck with a hammer during a violent home invasion on Hyde Park Circle, just off the Bridle Path, around 3:45 this morning. Three masked suspects, two armed with guns and one with a hammer, entered through the rear of the home, where parents and their two adult daughters were inside. A confrontation followed. Two shooting victims suffered life-altering injuries; the third is recovering. No further suspect descriptions are available. Police have not said whether the attack was targeted or random.

"Prime Minister Carney keeps a map of his grandparents’ Irish hometown of Aughagower on his desk in Ottawa. He says it acts as a friendly reminder of where he came from. But that’s just it. in any other era of human history, having the President of the EU step onto your soil to declare that the Arctic belongs to EUROPE would be treated as a direct violation of national sovereignty and a de facto declaration of hostility. AKA: an act of war. But yes, lets keep talking about Trump's meme's and status updates on Truth social.

Two people are fighting for their lives after a horrific shooting inside a Toronto home. No one should ever go to sleep fearing for their life in their own home. These criminals must be apprehended and face the full force of the law. My prayers are with the victims and their loved ones during this devastating time.
