The Negotiator II is here! 5-48V 5A. Read this thread for some of the cool stuff in it! :)
USB PD is a complex miracle. USB Chargers have chips more powerful than the Apollo 11 AGC moon landing computer, but the capabilities are locked away, and the Negotiator is the key. (1/7)
The Negotiator II has a web console where you can ramp voltages, watch the ADC readings, see what your charger can do and control it fully... I am very happy to see it used
Check out Brett's ultra cool satellite release mechanism business card! Literal rocket (carried) science!

It even has a full web interface.
Are you kidding?!
Somebody fund this man.

Like, look at this thing. Forget using the PCB as a connector, he's using it as a compliant mechanism to release freaking satellites. There are cool PCBs everywhere for the eye to see!
Someone asked me about the BoM cost of the Negotiator II... All these capabilities only cost $3.8 per board in components (100 qty)! Beat that.
PCB $1.3
Components $3.8
Assembly fees $1.5
Shipping and duties $1.4
————————————
Total $8
I am so proud of this card :)
I won Comma AI's PCB Golf challenge 😁
It was a struggle to get my board done in 3 days, couldnt attempt this before PCB West. One single layer rigid PCB, one single layer flex PCB. They connect at 5 non-zif flex connectors.
Very happy to see the DIY DC jack on two submissions!
To make this card a reality, I had to make a library for it. This is what the hyper cursed cable was for! I plan on open sourcing the PD version of that and releasing *the* cheapest PD 3.1 Sink design, ever. So check back here soon!
(errrrrr.... 6/6)

If you havent seen it, the USB port is fully open source and CC0! This new board is 0.8 mm instead of 0.6 and it is much stronger and has much less wiggle!

Want to make the slimmest USB C PCB ever? These footprints are now open source, and in public domain!
Enjoy! Make sure your PCB is 0.6 mm thick, and show me the cool stuff you make with them.

- Professional people dont tend to talk negatively about past jobs. I had a colleague who if it were up to him would fire the entire company, yet only mentioned the positives once he left
- These people saw how others did it, in a way, an example was set
- Jake, need I say more?
JLCPCB: You're making a lot of boards, panelize them to make them $10 cheaper! Here's the recommended panel
JLCPCB (after the order is placed): Your panel is too large, pay us $20
Oh look what we have here, the pzoz meter browns out at 3V3 and stops updating... I was using it and I thought I ran into a bug.
You can see both of the meters dim quite a bit when I request 3V3, but atleast one of them holds on for dear life :D

The funny numbers indicate progress :D
Thats PPS, SPR AVS, and EPR AVS functional
Still ironing out some wrinkles. The FW didnt expect this @OfficialAohi charger advertising 5-28V AVS ❌... The spec prohibits anything below 15V. Weirdly enough, it advertises 15-48V on port 1 ✅
What's the laziest way to load Vbus and test the FW behavior? Well, abusing a sink as a source, of course :D
Im just too lazy to get the big load out... It requires external power. Aint no body got time for that!
Count the USB spec violations in this photo, @cursedconnector :D
Every now and then, you come across a short that just.... Respects you. Wow, the information density! So much work poured into this, I am in absolute awe. And its not one or two on this channel, it's all of them.
Trust me, watch this.

The journey towards the cheapest 48V sink starts, as they all start, with a very cursed cable. Stay tuned :D
First step is the easiest: verify that the 5.1k resistor is picked up - just to check that CC and ground are (probably) all you need to negotiate 48V
