How do you get closer to God when you feel absolutely nothing? Most people assume closeness to God is supposed to feel like something. Warmth in your chest. Tears in worship. A sense that He’s right there in the room. So when you pray and the room stays quiet, when you open your Bible and the words just sit on the page, the conclusion comes fast: something is wrong with me, or He’s gone. Neither is true. But almost nobody tells you that, so people quietly drift away during the exact season God is doing some of His deepest work in them. Look at who felt this before you. David wrote, “How long, O Lord? Will you forget me forever? How long will you hide your face from me?” Psalm 13:1. That’s not a backslider talking. That’s a man God called a man after His own heart. Jesus Himself, on the cross, prayed the words of Psalm 22:1: “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” Feeling far from God is not proof that you are far from God. It is one of the most human experiences in the entire Bible. And notice where God actually showed up for Elijah. Not in the wind that broke the rocks. Not in the earthquake. Not in the fire. After all of that came a low whisper, 1 Kings 19:11-12. Sometimes the reason we feel nothing is that we’re waiting for the earthquake, and God is speaking in the whisper. So here’s the honest answer: you get closer to God the same way you get closer to anyone. You keep showing up when it isn’t exciting. “Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you,” James 4:8. The promise isn’t that you’ll feel Him draw near. It’s that He will. Your feelings are weather. His faithfulness is the climate. “His mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning,” Lamentations 3:22-23. Try this tonight. Don’t perform. Don’t try to manufacture a feeling. Sit down, open to one psalm, read it slowly, and then tell God the truth: “I don’t feel You right now, but I’m here.” That sentence is not weak faith. That is faith in its purest form, trust with nothing propping it up. You may feel nothing tonight. Come back tomorrow anyway. One day you’ll look back on this quiet stretch and realize He never left the room. He was teaching you to love Him for who He is, not for how He makes you feel.

In life, I struggle, I suffer, I’m tempted, I’m tested, sometimes I feel so weak. But when I am weak, I am strong. Because Christ, He is my hope, He is my strength, He is a firm foundation that never fails. Jesus is worthy of it all. May He be glorified always, not just on the mountain tops, but even in the valleys. “Let all that I am wait quietly before God, for my hope is in him. O my people, trust in him at all times. Pour out your heart to him, for God is our refuge.” Psalms 62:5, 8

Everything is God. Nothing is luck. Stop calling it coincidence. Stop calling it timing. Stop calling it luck. It's God. That opportunity? God. That person who believed in you? God. That moment you needed help? God showed up. That closed door? God redirecting you. There is no luck in a Christian's life. There is no accident or coincidence. Everything is orchestrated by God. So pray over everything. Not just the big things. Pray over your day. Pray over your decisions. Pray over your relationships. Pray over the small moments nobody sees. Because nothing happens outside of God's awareness. Nothing moves without God's permission. When you pray over everything, you acknowledge God controls everything. You stop giving credit to luck. You give it all to God. That's where real faith lives.

When you have kids, older parents will tell you “they grow up fast.” You’ll hear it a million times. Then one day you’ll realize how true it was. The time flies by as your kids get older. The days are short. Years don’t feel like years anymore. It’s bewildering. Impossible to talk about without sounding cliched.

Fun story. Just opened a value box of Bowman U and got this. Sam Roush was drafted by the Bears this year. He graduated from the school where I teach. #thehobbyfamily @GotdemCards

#3 Omarion Hampton It’s time to panic on Hampton. Not only does the Chargers offense look lost after 3 weeks, but Hampton’s role just got much worse. Check this out...

I stood outside in Iraq while mortars fell and realized I had zero control over where the next one would land. I felt that same helplessness the day my son Mitch died. What got me through both was a verse I preached to myself until my mind believed it: "And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together." Colossians 1:17 (ESV) That's self-brain surgery. When you can't control your circumstances, your brain sounds the alarm on repeat. But your mind is in charge of your brain, and you get to choose what it rehearses. Every time you tell yourself the truth that Jesus is holding this, you strengthen a pathway of trust instead of panic. The fourth commandment of self-brain surgery is I must believe that my mind is in charge of my brain. It's hard and holy work. Save this for the day you need it, and share it with someone who's under fire right now. I'm your friend Dr. Lee Warren, hopefully your favorite brain surgeon. Feeling bad is not repentance. Crying at the altar is not repentance. Promising God you'll do better is not repentance. Getting caught is not repentance. Confessing it Sunday and going back to it Monday is not repentance. The word the prophets used is shuv. It means turn around. Not feel. Not promise. Turn. The man who confesses AND forsakes his sin finds mercy. Confession with no turn is just giving God a heads up. He said tear your heart, not your clothes. Stop performing sorrow. Mercy is on the other side of the turn. Turn.

If you ever feel like God is not with you, read this verse: ISAIAH 46:3-4 "I have carried you since you were born; I have taken care of you from your birth. Even when you are old, I will be the same. Even when your hair has turned gray, I will take care of you. I made you and will take care of you. I will carry you and save you"🥺

I'm a Tennessee Titans fan. Not an NFL fan — a Titans fan. I don't have a second favorite team. I love this team and hate the other 31. That's how it works. But right now? I'm as checked out as I've ever been. This organization keeps making the same mistakes — bad hires, bad roster building, bad culture. And it all starts at the top. Amy Adams Strunk isn't going anywhere, so why would the results change? Yesterday was supposed to be different. A must-win game against a team that we all felt should be a step below us, at home, with a fanbase desperate for something — anything — to believe in. And we got absolutely blown out. Again!!! I'm tired of Titans media people such as @eastonfreeze and @titansfilmroom telling me and other tians fans how I should feel. "If they beat the Eagles and string together a couple wins, fans will buy back in." No, Easton. We won't. Because we all have eyes. There's nothing to hang our hat on. Justin was also being mocked @HeedTheCallPod this morning. And his cry of "well the Patriots lost to the Raiders last year in week 1" is such an embarrassment. Have the Patriots only won 9 out of their last 51 games? What about not having a winning record at any point in a season since 2022? Laughable. Cam Ward isn't the guy. I think the locker room is starting to turn on him too — his postgame pressers show zero accountability, and that stuff rubs teammates the wrong way. We should've seen it coming when he asked Warren Moon to unretire his jersey. Disrespectful. And yeah — he was put in a brutal situation. The Titans ruined another quarterback. Both things are true: he's not the guy, and the organization failed him. That's the problem. So where do we go from here? Fire Saleh and Borgonzi? That would just be another impulsive move from Amy — the same thing we used to criticize her for. But can you blame fans for not trusting anyone in that building to make the right call? I'm done getting emotional. Done spending money. This season is going to be brutal, and I don't see it getting any better anytime soon.
