Triple front of @BrightonIndy this week. I'm sure the double page inside will make @BrightonSave @Cardenthriving @WoodingdeanPS and @RudyardSchool very happy today.
Breaking news after this was printed last night was Aldi with its planning application. #LDreporter #Brighton #Hove

This was me this evening, presenting a petition at a full council meeting. Quite nerve wracking but hopefully worth it. @Cardenthriving

Laura Bissonnet speaks for Carden. She lives and works in Hollingbury and teaches at Patcham High. There are families behind parent's data. A parent who moved from Whitehawk to Patcham would have found transport hard. #LDreporter #Brigthon #Hove

4/4 @RudyardSchool is also part of the consultation and has a staggering 38% of children on the SEND register. What will be the impact on our vulnerable children and the financial cost. @BrightonHoveCC has already over spent £400,000 on SEND provision. Will PAN reduction help?

3/4 @CardenPrimary @Cardenthriving This school is also part of the consultation and again has a specialist speech and language centre. Bevendean and Carden are both classed as special schools. They are also both shining examples of success.

We hope that those groups supporting our children with SEND are aware of the council's proposals to reduce PAN? Schools being targeted have the highest proportion of children from disadvantaged backgrounds and have SEND. @AmazeSussex @PaCCBrighton

This is a very important campaign for the future of our local schools in Brighton and Hove please support the pupils parents and our members
If you live or work in Brighton & Hove please consider supporting small community schools by signing their petitions to @BrightonHoveCC here: -

And please makle your views (politely) known within the consultation process.

Off to @RudyardSchool this morning to take part in the consultation and fight against reducing the number of children being admitted to the school in the future. Please sign the petition. present.brighton-hove.gov.uk…

Carden has a significant number of late applications every year from children re-housed in the area, families already disadvantaged by the pandemic forced to make long journeys to schools, whowon’t develop the community support vital for their children’s success. @Cardenthriving

Luckily, @CardenPrimary has great ventilation in large classrooms in spacious grounds. Would be a shame if... it got its intake reduced by the Council. @Cardenthriving #ProtectEducation

Thank you @BHDemocracyNews for coming to speak to staff, parents and governors this morning at Bevendean Primary School and Nusery to understand the impact of these proposals.

There are 7 schools affected in total. Like Bevendean Primary (@Stand4Bevendean), Carden Primary is a school at the heart of a community. Sign the petitions, fill in the consultation, follow, like and share.
🎶On the 2nd day of xmas @CardenPrimary gave to the community:
👣 Two walk, cycle, scoot, or skip to school journeys a day 🎶
(B/c Hollingbury's lovely location on City's outskirts, ppl will be forced to use🚗🚌 if @BrightonHoveCC cut Carden's intake.)

So @BrightonHoveCC are looking to reduce the # of places at our local primary school by 50%, but based on inaccurate data. Were the plan to go ahead then children wldn’t be able to get a place at their local primary school. I urge BHCC to reconsider @Cardenthriving @CardenPrimary

Worse, data 👉 it won't help solve city-wide prob bc Hollingbury & Patcham:
📍projected to have among *fewest* surplus pupil places (23 in 2023 v 127 in city centre)
Keep Carden Thriving retweeted
❌Cutting from smaller schools on outskirts to support bigger schools in centre refusing to reduce their PANs is unjust & ineffective.
Our area has no walkable alternatives.
To get to school, families will have to:
Drive to school = 🚗🚗🚗🚗💷🌬️🌬️
Bus = 🚌🚌 💷💷🌬️🌬️

CORRECTION: The 2023 pupil surplus for Hollingbury and Patcham is 30, the 2024 surplus is 23.
This doesn't change the point being made about the scale of the low birthrate affecting the outskirts differently.
Apologies.

.@CardenPrimary's pupil intake has consistently been higher than @BrightonHoveCC admission figures.
More families are moving to Hollingbury & Patcham, & choosing our school.
Cutting Carden in half =
⬆️ pollution
⬆️ inequality
⬇️ community
