One of the greatest responsibilities we have as coaches is understanding the influence we have on young people.
Nick Saban said it best:
“Leadership is all about helping someone for their benefit. If you’re helping them for your benefit, that’s manipulation.”
That’s a powerful reminder.
We all want to win. We all want our programs to be successful.
But coaching has never been just about what players can do for us.
It’s about what we can do for them.
The lessons we teach. The confidence we build. The standards we establish. The people we help them become.
Our success as coaches shouldn’t just be measured by what our players accomplish for us, but by who they become because of us.
That’s the responsibility.
And the privilege of coaching.

Mike Tomlin says he loves competing against coaches who blame players for being unable to learn
“Management. That’s what the hell we’re paid to do.”
“We try to bring out the best in the collective. In an effort to do so… We better manage the collective… And the individuals within the collective.”
“I love to hear coaches resist the responsibility of coaching… Because they’re easy to beat.”
“They talk negatively about a dude… Saying things like ‘He can’t learn.’”
“If everybody could learn… We’d need fewer coaches.”
“Somebody’s talking about… How poor somebody’s hand usage is. Well, that’s coaching.”
“I don’t run away from coaching. I run to coaching. I love it.”
“When you’re a coach… Talking about somebody can’t learn… You’re seeking comfort… Because your teaching is struggling.”

Listening to Ryan about the powers that be and/or particulars at @espn, tells you all you need to know.
And I said it in a comment on IG, he ruffled the feathers and Ryan is unlike Stephen A., Ryan is a man, a person of character and speaks to what he believes is right and they saw that he isn’t going to stoop to the ba-coonery of you know who!!! 😂 🤷🏾♂️ #justmy2cents
