Zimbabwe were in this game twice. That is both the encouragement and the frustration. 🇿🇼 First ODI takeaways: • At 107/4, Zimbabwe had Australia under pressure. Partnerships of 72 and 75 allowed them to recover and reach 294/8. • Newman Nyamhuri was the biggest positive. His 5/62 was not perfect, but the wicket-taking threat is real. • Thirteen wides and three no-balls were too many. The attack created chances but also released pressure. • The chase was badly damaged at 62/4. Zimbabwe’s top four contributed only 47 runs from 66 balls. • Ervine and Raza added 98 and briefly opened the door again. At 160/4, Zimbabwe needed 135 from 118 balls. Difficult, but possible. • Their fifties created a world first: never before had two batters aged over 40 scored fifties in the same ODI innings. • Wessly is wasted at No.7. If Zimbabwe need a finisher there, I would rather have Burl. Move Wessly into the top five. • Zimbabwe’s best bowler was 20. Their only half-centurions were both over 40. The generation in between must start deciding matches before the 2027 World Cup. Australia deserved the 59-run win. Zimbabwe created their moments but could not hold them. 🇿🇼🏏 – at Harare, Zimbabwe

Really liked Innocent Kaia’s innings today. 72 off 42 is 🔥, but the bit that stood out for me was that he didn’t disappear once the Powerplay ended. Powerplay: 36 off 20 Middle overs: 36 off 22 We’ve seen Zimbabwe start well so many times, then lose momentum once the field spreads. Kaia kept going. That’s the kind of profile we need at the top. 🇿🇼 #NAMvZIM #FNBT20TriSeries #Chevrons – at Harare, Zimbabwe
