With deep sorrow and abiding gratitude we mourn the passing of Pope Francis, who returned to the Father’s embrace this morning. A Suffering Servant for our time, a pastor of mercy and hope whose courage opened our eyes to the virtue of building bridges, a prophet of justice, and a voice for — and sojourner to — the poor and forgotten, he reminded the Church and the world — through his actions — that “realities are greater than ideas,” and that love without borders is the heart of the Gospel. His prophetic witness to humility, compassion, and mercy, and to the integral ecology and morality inherent to God’s Creation, shaped a generation — and lifted all our eyes and hearts to heaven. His call to be “the saint next door” provides a light for us in the darkness through which we now must find our way. Pope Francis always asked for our prayers. Today, please join us in offering prayers in gratitude and love — for our beloved Papa Francisco, for all our sisters and brothers who mourn his passing, for our Church in this time of transition and hope, and for the global community that was the beneficiary of his love, hope, and wisdom. As he just wrote for his Easter homily, delivered by Cardinal Angelo Comastri: “The Jubilee invites us to renew the gift of hope within us, to surrender our sufferings and our concerns to hope, to share it with those whom we meet along our journey and to entrust to hope the future of our lives and the destiny of the human family.” @pontifex #PopeFrancis #PapaFrancisco

PLEASE JOIN YOUR PRAYERS TO THOSE OF OUR CHURCH FOR POPE LEO’S RECOVERY AND FUTURE GOOD HEALTH 🙏 Pope Leo XIV underwent successful surgery today to remove a small, localized nodule from his lung. Cardinal Pietro Parolin, Vatican Secretary of State, expressed confidence that the condition could be “resolved” because it was discovered early. Cardinal Baldassare Reina, Vicar General of Rome, led the faithful in praying the Rosary for Pope Leo in the St. John Paul II Chapel at Gemelli Hospital in Rome. 🙏 Let us unite our prayers with theirs for Pope Leo's speedy recovery and for the blessing of good health for many years to come. If you can, pray the Rosary, or offer a heartfelt prayer for his healing, renewed strength, and continued good health. 🙏 In today’s troubled world - and too often divided Church - Pope Leo’s gentle, recurring and artful calls for unity and love are being heard. Now is a good time to make praying for Pope Leo integral to your daily prayer. 🙏 Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for our beloved pontiff, Pope Leo XIV. 🙏 @pontifex @VaticanNews #PopeLeoXIV #PrayForPopeLeo #PrayForThePope #CatholicChurch

PRAYING THE ROSARY FOR DISCERNMENT BEFORE THE MIDTERM ELECTIONS 🙏 We have moved from the Season of Creation into Respect Life Month. As Catholics – who are called to make informed voting decisions based on our prudential judgment guided by a well-formed conscience – October could also be thought of as “Voting Decision Preparation Month.” Such a name puts before us the final work of researching the issues and candidates, and praying for the wisdom and moral clarity to make voting decisions that serve the common good. Yesterday, October 7, was the Memorial of Our Lady of the Rosary. The Church traditionally invites us on this day to meditate on the mysteries of Christ under the guidance of Mary, who shared in a singular way in his Incarnation, Passion, and Resurrection. (#USCCB) But the Rosary also invites us to bring the concerns of our world before Christ. The teachings of Pope Leo XIII and St. John Paul II remind us that the Rosary can also embrace the concerns of society. In that spirit, we can bring the midterm elections into our prayerful contemplation – the people affected, the responsibilities of public office, the candidates’ records and proposals, and the likely consequences of their election. 🙏 Praying the Rosary can help quiet our partisan reflexes and self-interest, make us more attentive to the dignity of those who we may overlook, and strengthen our commitment to peace, justice, and the common good. 🙏 The formation of conscience is a lifelong endeavor. But as we approach these elections, we urge Catholics to pray the Rosary, asking for Mary's intercession that we might better discern the contours of the issues before us – both their immediate consequences and their long-term implications. May our prayer help us develop the moral clarity, wisdom, and prudence to exercise our responsibility as voters, making prudential judgments guided by well-formed consciences, grounded in the Gospel and the social teachings of the Church. Sisters and brothers, let us pray. 🙏 #OurLadyOfTheRosary #FaithfulCitizenship #ConscienceFormation #PrudentialJudgment #RespectLifeMonth #MidtermElections

OCTOBER 7TH - PLEASE JOIN US IN STANDING IN LOVING SOLIDARITY WITH OUR SISTERS AND BROTHERS OF THE JEWISH FAITH AND IN OPPOSING HATRED IN ALL ITS FORMS 🙏 This reflection on the third anniversary of October 7th, by Fr. Piotr Zelazko, Vicar for Hebrew-Speaking Catholics in Israel, moved us, particularly these words: *** “The real question is not simply what happened to us, but who we have decided to become.” *** “In a land wounded by conflict, every gesture of friendship, every act of solidarity, and every refusal to surrender to hatred becomes a sign of hope. Our vocation is not only to pray for peace, but also to become artisans of peace, one encounter at a time.” ++++++++++++ Fr. Piotr Zelazko’s Reflection "Reconciliation is not forgetting the wounds. It is refusing to let those wounds define the future." This time of year is always difficult. The pain returns as I remember the terrible events of that day. The faces of those who were killed and the suffering of their families are very present in the media these days. My thoughts go back to the many funerals in which I participated. I still hear the voices of the victims and the cries of their loved ones. My prayer is often interrupted by the question: Why is there so much pain and hatred? 🙏 If it is true that time is a healer, then we still need time. Yet suffering can either harden us or deepen us. Three years after October 7, the real question is not simply what happened to us, but who we have decided to become. Will we be able to build a society free from hatred? Will we be able to show that reconciliation is not forgetting the wounds, but refusing to let those wounds define the future? We cannot choose our history, but together we can choose what history produces within us. The smallest communities often carry the greatest hope. They prove that people can belong to one another without belonging against one another. The Vicariate of St. James has a unique opportunity to bear witness to a Christian truth: peace begins the moment pain stops having the final word. I believe in our capacity to speak the language of encounter and peace, even when there is so much pain and fear within us. In a land wounded by conflict, every gesture of friendship, every act of solidarity, and every refusal to surrender to hatred becomes a sign of hope. Our vocation is not only to pray for peace, but also to become artisans of peace, one encounter at a time. 🙏 catholic.co.il/?cat=news&vie… #EndHatred #LoveConquersHate #Peace #ArtisansOfPeace #StopAntisemitism #Antisemitism #InterfaithSolidarity #Reconciliation

LET US PRAY FOR AND ACCOMPANY OUR JEWISH SISTERS AND BROTHERS 🙏 As Yom Kippur begins, let us pray with Bishop Bambera and the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, along with Catholics and people of goodwill everywhere, in extending our prayers and warmest wishes to our Jewish friends and neighbors as they observe this holiest day. 🙏 As our Jewish sisters and brothers enter this sacred day of repentance and atonement, may we also heed the call of St. John Paul II to “purify our hearts” through repentance and to examine our own consciences—including the sins of antisemitism, contempt, persecution, and indifference committed against the Jewish people by too many Christians across the centuries and still present in our world today. In 1998, St. John Paul II called the Church to this examination of conscience in his letter accompanying We Remember: A Reflection on the Shoah, issued by the Holy See’s Commission for Religious Relations with the Jews. May this Day of Atonement be a time of meaningful reflection, reconciliation, and renewal, and may the year ahead bring greater understanding, friendship, and peace among our communities. G’mar Chatimah Tovah – May you be sealed for a good year. #YomKippur #StopAntisemitism #Antisemitism #LoveConquersHate ++++++++++++ SOCIAL MEDIA POST MADE BY THE UNITED STATES CONFERENCE OF CATHOLIC BISHOPS As our Jewish friends and neighbors observe Yom Kippur, the day of atonement, I want to extend my warmest wishes for a meaningful and a peaceful day. Yom Kippur is the holiest day of the Jewish year for Jewish communities around the world. It is marked by fasting, prayer, and repentance and by seeking reconciliation with God and with one another. Following on the joy of renewal of Rosh Hashanah just a few days before, Yom Kippur invites a searching examination of the year that has passed and a commitment to the year ahead. At the heart of this observance is the recognition that our relationships with God and with one another call us continually to reflection, repentance, and renewal to consider how we can live more faithfully and more generously. These themes also resonate deeply with us as Catholics and our relationship with the Jewish people is not simply a matter of dialogue between two religious communities. It is rooted in the deep spiritual bonds that unite us, including our shared patrimony and the scriptural heritage from which both our traditions draw. That is why building genuine friendship and understanding between Jews and Catholics matters so deeply. It is also why we must reject anti-semitism in all its forms and work together to ensure that the Jewish people can live and worship free from hatred and fear. As Catholics, we are called not only to oppose anti-semitism when it appears, but also to deepen our understanding of Judaism and of the Jewish people. The relationships that have grown between our communities, particularly through the promulgation of Nostra Aetate, remind us that dialogue is not merely an exchange of ideas. At its best, it creates friendships, builds trust, and helps us recognize our responsibilities toward one another. On this Yom Kippur, may the year ahead bring greater understanding, friendship, and peace among our communities. G’mar Chatimah Tovah See the @USCCB video here: youtu.be/b69-l6fhJz0?si=I0yg…

PLEASE JOIN US IN WISHING THE #HOLYFATHER A HAPPY BIRTHDAY AND IN PRAYING FOR HIM 🙏 Prayer for the Pope V. Let us pray for Leo XIV, our Pope. R. May the Lord preserve him, and give him life, and make him blessed upon the earth, and deliver him not up to the will of his enemies. Our Father. 🙏 Hail Mary. 🙏 O God, shepherd and ruler of all the faithful, look favorably on your servant Leo XIV, whom you have set at the head of your Church as her shepherd; grant, we pray, that by word and example he may be of service to those over whom he presides so that, together with the flock entrusted to his care, he may come to everlasting life. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, for ever and ever. Amen. 🙏 #PopeLeoXIV #HappyBirthdayPopeLeo #PrayForThePope #VicarOfChrist #Catholic

ROSH HASHANAH - THE SHOFAR'S SPIRITUAL SUMMONS TO AWAKEN AND RETURN TO GOD 🙏 As sisters and brothers in Abraham, we stand with our Jewish sisters and brothers - here in the United States and around the world - during their holy days at this time of year, beginning with Rosh Hashanah. We believe we are called to solidarity with them at a time of profound uncertainty in our world and division within our own society. As our nation marks its 250th anniversary, may this also be a time to celebrate and recommit ourselves to a pluralistic democracy in which our Jewish neighbors, and people of every faith, can live in security and dignity. And may we seek virtue within ourselves, not only for ourselves but for the good of our global community. And let us join in the prayer #PopeLeo sent to Rome’s Chief Rabbi, Riccardo Di Segni: “May the arrival of Rosh Hashanah bring with it the promise of peaceful renewal and the sweetness of a propitious beginning; may the sacred silence of Yom Kippur be an occasion for peace and inner light; may the festival of Sukkot be filled with joy, gratitude and fellowship.” 🙏 And may we, in Pope Leo’s words, “grow in mutual friendship” - here in the United States and throughout the world. 🙏 #RoshHashanah #GodOfAbraham #Virtue #Solidarity
Each year, our Jewish brothers and sisters mark Rosh Hashanah, the beginning of the Jewish New Year and the start of a sacred period leading to Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement. These High Holy Days are a time for prayer, self-examination, seeking forgiveness, and returning to God, as Jewish communities look toward the year ahead with hope. In this time, we are reminded of the rich tradition of Jewish and Christian engagement with the Scriptures we share. For generations, Jewish and Christian scholars have learned from one another through the study of the Bible, deepening our understanding not only of Scripture, but also of the traditions and communities that have received it. This kind of fruitful collaboration is one of the many ways that the vision of Nostra Aetate continues to take shape: through friendship, mutual respect, and a shared commitment to seeking greater understanding. As we enter the Jewish New Year, we wish our Jewish friends a year of peace, blessing, and renewed hope. Shana Tova!

WE WILL ALWAYS REMEMBER AND PRAY AND ACT 🙏 On September 11, 2001, we stood in solidarity in grief, shock and sorrow with love and compassion for the victims and their families – solidarity in grief – and with love and awe and grief for the first responders – solidarity in love – and love and mercy for one another as we all understood that we felt one another’s vulnerability and pain – solidarity in pain and vulnerability – that we had never known before and could not have imagined. Since then, we have wandered seeking direction and purpose. What do we do today? First, we remember. Then we pray. 🙏 We pray for the repose of the souls of those whose lives were lost, for their families and loved ones, for the first responders who survived the horror, and for the lost spirit of national unity we once felt so deeply—and have since learned is so fragile. Then we act. We act with humility and mercy and love to begin the building of a civilization of love – called for by Pope Leo in his encyclical "Magnifica Humanitas" – to heal the divisions in our nation and between nations throughout the world and then to build societies rooted in love in which we serve the common good and, in doing so, one another. Remember. Pray. Act. Repeat. Today, let us pray. 🙏 Holy Mary, Mother of God, Queen of Peace and the Universe, pray for us. #911Remembrance #911Anniversary #AlwaysRemember #NeverForget #PowerOfPrayer #PrayAndAct

ON THE BIRTH OF OUR LADY, LET US PRAY AND ASK FOR HER INTERCESSION 🙏 Let us pray in thanksgiving that God the Father gave Mary such a singular role in the history of salvation. Holy Mary, Mother of God and Queen of the Universe, pray for us and for an ever-present awareness of the sacredness of all human life, from conception to natural death, that we may all be caregivers in our own way and seek justice for all our sisters and brothers. 🙏 #NativityOfMary #BlessedVirginMary #MotherOfGod #PrayForUs #SanctityOfLife #CatholicSocialTeaching #JusticeForAll

LET US PRAY FOR A CONVERSION OF HEART FOR THE CARE OF CREATION 🙏 In his message for the 11th World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation, #PopeLeoXIV speaks to our hearts: “[The world’s] crises call not only for responsibility but also for a conversion of heart that will bear fruit in a deeper fidelity to God, love of one another and respect for the gift of creation…. The human heart is the place where reason, desire, will and conscience converge. It is here that we wrestle with the contradictory desires within us between love and indifference, truth and illusion, justice and injustice (cf. Jas 1:14–15). Pope Benedict XVI reminded us that “the external deserts in the world are growing, because the internal deserts have become so vast” (Homily for the Solemn Inauguration of the Petrine Ministry, 24 April 2005). This calls us to recognize that, in some way, what is broken around is also broken within us. In order to build a peaceful society, therefore, we must not only reform structures but also renew our hearts. The prophetic call to “beat swords into plowshares” (Is 2:4) is therefore not only a vision for nations, but a call to each person. It invites us to transform harm into life. Yet this transformation cannot be achieved through external change alone. It requires, through cooperating with God’s grace, a deeper personal and collective conversion — a returning to God, who will reorder our desires, heal our wounds and help us grow in virtue.” Read the entire message here: vatican.va/content/leo-xiv/e… #SeasonOfCreation #CareOfCreation #LaudatoSi #Prayer #PrayAndAct #Virtue #Peace #RememberThePoor
The Season of Creation is an ecumenical initiative celebrated every year from September 1 to October 4, beginning with the World Day of Prayer for the Care for Creation and concluding on the Feast of Saint Francis of Assisi. This season gives Catholics the opportunity to give thanks to God for the creation of the world and of humanity, and to recall and strengthen our responsibility to care for God's creation.

PLEASE JOIN US IN PRAYING FOR THOSE WE HATE FOR THE SAKE OF THEIR SOULS, OUR SOULS, & THE SAKE OF OUR DEMOCRACY 🙏 Fr. William Grimm, MM, a prominent international Catholic journalist, Director of the Editorial Advisory Board for @GlobalCatholic, and publisher of @UCANews, takes us out of our comfort zones today in an essay entitled, “Whether I like it or not, if they exist they are loved.” It is a challenging take on what Jesus’ commandment to love one another asks of us in John 13:34. Fr. Grimm makes his compelling case with 1 John 4:7–12: “Beloved, let us love one another, because love is from God.... Whoever does not love does not know God, for God is love.... Beloved, since God loved us so much, we also ought to love one another.” Then he asks, “But what about them? You know – the evil ones. Is God really so indiscriminating as to love into existence some of history’s monsters like Stalin, Hitler, Pol Pot and their ilk? What about some of the political and social leaders of our world today? … In the present situation where we are so polarized, condemned and condemning, we easily fall into hatred. We must accept that God loves those whom we do not love.” And then Fr. Grimm looks to Paul: “For there will be a reckoning when they shall know even as they are known (1 Corinthians 13:12) and they shall face what love might have made of them and how they betrayed that vocation. They are more to be pitied and prayed for than vilified.” Prayer is not a reward; it is an obligation and a prudent communal response for the common good rooted in agape love. 🙏 Please join us in praying for those we hate for the sake of their souls, our souls, and ultimately the sake of our democracy. 🙏 Read the entire essay here: globalcatholic.com/whether-i… #LoveYourEnemy #PrayForYourEnemy #CommonGood #CatholicSocialTeaching #John1334 #1John4 #Virtue #Mercy #Humility #AgapeLove #Unity

LET US PRAY AND ACT FOR THE PEOPLE OF NEPAL AND TIBET 🙏 Yesterday, on the Feast of St. Augustine, Pope Leo XIV offered a timely reminder of what our faith asks of us in the face of human suffering. Speaking to members of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, he recalled that St. Vincent demonstrated that “prayer and social justice are not merely complementary but in fact are inseparable.” 🙏 Pope Leo then turned to St. Augustine, recalling his teaching that our care for those in need is centered on Christ: “Caring for others, when motivated by love, not only helps those in need, but also opens the heart of the giver to God’s grace.” Today, these words direct our thoughts and prayers to Nepal and Tibet, where catastrophic flooding has killed more than 675 people. Nearly 3,000 remain missing, and tens of thousands have been affected. And so, let us pray for those who have died, the missing, the injured and displaced, grieving families, and all those working to rescue and care for them. 🙏 And then, having prayed, let us ask what love requires of us. We can support organizations aiding in the relief efforts, particularly Catholic Relief Services. Please donate here: crs.org/donate/nepal-flood?m… In the spirit of St. Augustine and St. Vincent de Paul, may our prayer open our hearts and our treasure to our suffering brothers and sisters in Nepal and Tibet. St. Augustine, pray for us. 🙏 St. Vincent de Paul, pray for us. 🙏 Our Lady, Queen of Peace, pray for the people of Nepal and Tibet. 🙏 Amen. #NepalFloods #TibetFloods #PrayForNepal #PrayForTibet #CatholicReliefServices #CatholicSocialTeaching #StAugustine #StVincentDePaul #PrayAndAct #PrayerAndAction

We add the following to the Holy Father’s intercession: May the Blessed Mother also intercede for the peoples of #Venezuela and #Colombia as they recover from the devastation of the recent earthquakes, especially for those who mourn the loss of loved ones, those who have been injured or displaced, and all who are working to bring relief, healing, and renewed hope. #HolyMary, #MotherOfGod, #QueenOfTheUniverse, pray for us – for our healing and hope, and our humility and unity. Please add your own invocation for Mary’s intercession in the comments. #BlessedVirginMary #SolemnityOfTheAssumption #TheAssumption #PopeLeoXIV @pontifex
The Blessed Virgin Mary, assumed into the glory of heaven, is a sign of hope and consolation for the entire People of God. For this reason, I wish to invoke her maternal intercession today on behalf of those communities that are in particular need of consolation and of renewed hope. My thoughts go out to our brothers and sisters in the Holy Land, which is also, par excellence, the Land of Mary. My thoughts also go out to the Ukrainian and Russian peoples, both of whom are united by their filial devotion to the Holy Mother of God, and to Christians who suffer discrimination or even persecution.

JOHN ADAMS 2ND LETTER TO ABIGAIL ADAMS – A DAY OF DELIVERANCE TO BE COMMEMORATED FOREVER MORE 🙏 On July 3, 1776, #JohnAdams wrote his wife Abigail not one but two letters, one in the morning and one in the evening. His first letter responded to Abigail’s most recent letter related to community affairs on the home front. And he announced the signing of the #DeclarationOfIndependence to her and his concern that America may “suffer Calamities” but with “good Effect, at least: [to] inspire us with many Virtues,” as a “Furnace of Affliction produces Refinement.” His second letter lamented that they had delayed in passing the Declaration it cost them the chance to secure foreign alliances and to hold Canada, which the Continental Army was fighting to keep. He reflected on the silver lining of delay. “Time has been given for the whole People, maturely to consider the great Question of Independence and to ripen their judgments, dissipate their Fears, and allure their Hopes, by discussing it…so that the whole People in every Colony of the 13, have now adopted it, as their own Act.” And then he shares what has become one of his most famous and prophetic quotes: “But the Day is past. The Second Day of July 1776, will be the most memorable Epocha, in the History of America. I am apt to believe that it will be celebrated, by succeeding Generations, as the great anniversary Festival. It ought to be commemorated, as the Day of Deliverance by solemn Acts of Devotion to God Almighty. It ought to be solemnized with Pomp and Parade, with Shews, Games, Sports, Guns, Bells, Bonfires and Illuminations from one End of this Continent to the other from this Time forward forever more.” He also soberly shares “the Toil and Blood and Treasure it will cost Us to maintain this Declaration, and support and defend these States.” However, in the end he sees “that the End is more than worth all the Means,” which he entrusts to God. On this #IndependenceDay, let us pray in thanksgiving for all the gifts God has given us, both individually and as a nation, and also pray with humility for the virtue we need to fulfill the promise of our lives and that of our American Experiment. 🙏 Read the letter here: masshist.org/digitaladams/ar… #JulyFourth #July4th #4thOfJuly #America250 #USA250 #Patriotism #Virtue #Pietas #Thanksgiving #AmericanExperiment #PluralisticDemocracy #AbigailAdams

JOHN ADAMS LETTER TO ABIGAIL ADAMS – INDEPENDENCE, VICE & VIRTUE 🙏 On July 3, 1776, #JohnAdams wrote two letters to his wife Abigail, whom he described as his "best, dearest, worthiest, wisest friend in this World." In the first letter, believed to have been written in the morning, he describes the passage of the #DeclarationOfIndependence thusly: "Yesterday the greatest Question was decided, which ever was debated in America, and a greater perhaps, never was or will be decided among Men. A Resolution was passed without one dissenting Colony 'that these united Colonies, are, and of right ought to be free and independent States….'" He spoke of its passage "in the Sight of God and Man” and the "Greatness of this Revolution." He said that "America was filled with wisdom, at least [in his] judgment," but prudently added that "time will determine." Adams, formed in New England’s liberal Congregational tradition and not given to easy piety — as he alludes to in this letter — nevertheless spoke of the “Will of Heaven.” He affirms that they made the right decision. But at the same time, he questions if the people and governments they are forming may need to suffer as a means of purification. "It may be the Will of Heaven that America shall suffer Calamities still more wasting and Distresses yet more dreadfull. If this is to be the Case, it will have this good Effect, at least: it will inspire Us with many Virtues, which We have not, and correct many Errors, Follies, and Vices, which threaten to disturb, dishonour, and destroy Us. The Furnace of Affliction produces Refinement, in States as well as Individuals. And the new Governments we are assuming, in every Part, will require a Purification from our Vices, and an Augmentation of our Virtues or they will be no Blessings." On this #IndependenceDay, let us pray in thanksgiving for all the gifts God has given us, both individually and as a nation, and also pray with humility for the virtue we need to fulfill the promise of our lives and that of our American Experiment. 🙏 Read the letter here: masshist.org/digitaladams/ar… #JulyFourth #July4th #4thOfJuly #America250 #USA250 #Patriotism #Virtue #Pietas #AmericanExperiment #PluralisticDemocracy #AbigailAdams
