Control of the U.S. Senate was handed to the Democratic Party Tuesday night, as the party flipped key seats in Texas, Kansas, North Carolina and South Carolina, allowing the party to secure control of both chambers of Congress in one of the most closely watched midterm elections in years. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer said that the "American people reduced the red brick wall to a pile of bricks."

Assuming Republicans lose the seats where prediction markets have the Democrats at 90+% to win, that would produce 55 Democrat Senate seats. Chance of confirming a worthy successor to Justice Thomas and/or Alito during President Trump’s term: Zero. Chance of confirming a worthy successor during a hypothetical GOP admin 2029-2033: probably zero (GOP won’t be able to recapture enough seats in 28).

Democrats are going to do what we always do which is disappoint and try to play fair. But with these majorities I’d try and present legislation on every popular issue we have even the “far left” ones and make the R’s and Trump vote up and down. This is a big opportunity
