In the best cases, 1 out of every 1000 sea turtle eggs survives to adulthood. But turtles are important for culture, the ecosystem, and tourism. By using a metal straw, picking up trash at the beach, or learning about turtles - everyone can be a part of #SeaTurtleConservation. 🐢

My first chapter was a collaboration with @CaymanTurtle. We used modelling to show how raising turtles in short-term captivity can boost individual survival and recover populations. This won 3rd place for the Archie Carr Conservation Award at #ISTS41 and the paper is in prep!

Fun Fact: “Batabano” refers to the tracks that are left in the sand when the turtles come onto the beach to nest, thus, the celebration was born. Even the turtles know how to have a good time in Cayman.
