We're lowering and freezing provincial education property tax rates across Alberta. The new rates will standardize and freeze provincial education property tax rates for three years. These changes will help municipalities budget with confidence and give Albertans greater certainty when planning for the years ahead. Through Budget 2027, we're making changes that will: ✅ Deliver savings: an estimated $98.7 million in savings for Alberta property owners in 2027-28. ✅ Improve fairness: Apply consistent provincial education property tax rates across municipalities. ✅ Provide certainty: Give municipalities a predictable provincial tax rate to plan around when making decisions for their communities. ✅ Protect Albertans: Introduce a one-time transition tax credit in 2027 for property owners in communities where the new provincial rates would otherwise be higher.   No matter where Albertans live, they should be able to count on a fair, consistent and predictable approach to education property taxes.

Albertans work hard for their money, and when they spend it, they should be able to buy with confidence. Bill 34, the "Service Alberta and Red Tape Reduction Statutes Amendment Act" puts common sense back into consumer protection: ✅ Lemon laws so you can get a refund or replacement when a new vehicle has serious defects that can’t be fixed ✅ Right to repair, so farmers and families can get the parts and information to fix what they own ✅ Credit freezes to stop fraudsters opening accounts in your name ✅ Fair ticket resales, with clear prices and fees, and no more bots buying up seats ✅ A dedicated Surface Rights Board for landowners again Your money, your purchases, your rights. That’s what this Bill 34 is about.

Congratulations to Premier-elect Lorne Doerkson and the BC Conservatives on a strong majority win! British Columbians sent a clear message: they are done with NDP policies that held back resource development and major projects.

We’ve heard loud and clear from Albertans they’re concerned about altered images (deep fakes) of themselves or their family members being used to generate sexually explicit content. Doing so is a serious violation of privacy and dignity, and our laws need to treat it that way. Our government has proposed Bill 33, and if passed, it will protect Albertans from nonconsensual images being shared without consent whether the images are real or fake. ✅ Fines up to $10,000 ✅ Up to two years in jail ✅ Covers AI generated content ✅ Victims can sue, even over threats to share See more: alberta.ca/release.cfm?xID=9…

The best person for the job should get the job. Period. Today we tabled legislation that would ensure hiring and promotion decisions in the public sector are based on merit, not DEI policies. Mandatory workplace training will be relevant to the roles and responsibilities of the employee, instead of mandatory DEI sessions. Every Albertan deserves a fair shot, and fairness means everyone competes on the same terms.

Alberta supports Conservative MP David McKenzie’s Bill C-264 to repeal the federal Oil Tanker Moratorium Act and remove barriers preventing our responsibly produced energy from reaching global markets. Repealing the ban would open the door to crude-by-rail exports through Prince Rupert, giving Alberta another route to reach customers around the world. Our oil to the United States is selling at a significant discount at a disadvantage to the entire country. The only effective way to close that gap is to increase exports off our western coast and get more customers competing for our energy. For decades, limited access to tidewater has left Alberta heavily dependent on a single customer, putting our oil at a competitive disadvantage and reducing the value of our resources. The Trans Mountain Expansion has helped open new markets, particularly in Asia, but we need more pipelines and more access to tidewater. Pacific Link will help increase our export capacity, but we also need to remove the federal tanker ban to unlock opportunities through Prince Rupert. Global demand for energy continues to grow, and Alberta has the resources to help meet it. Alberta holds the fourth-largest proven oil reserves in the world, and developing those resources benefits all Canadians. They help fund hospitals, schools, critical infrastructure and social programs across the country, while creating long-term economic opportunities for Indigenous communities through investment and co-ownership in major projects. Canada cannot become a global energy superpower while federal policies continue to stand in the way of getting our energy to the world. Repealing the tanker ban is an important step toward securing better prices for our resources and building a stronger, more prosperous Canada.

Alberta is mourning alongside the Canadian Armed Forces and the families, friends and colleagues of those affected by the tragic incident at Canadian Forces Base Wainwright yesterday. The loss of life and injuries are heartbreaking. On behalf of the Government of Alberta, I extend my deepest condolences to the families who have lost loved ones and wish those who have been injured a full recovery. Our thoughts are also with the military personnel, families and colleagues facing uncertainty and grief during this incredibly difficult time. We are deeply grateful to the first responders, paramedics, physicians, nurses and hospital teams across Alberta who have mobilized to provide care to those injured. Albertans should all be incredibly proud of their frontline health care workers and our acute care system that has managed this mass casualty event. We’re also thankful to our neighbours in Saskatchewan who did not hesitate to support our response with additional air ambulance capacity, and to other provinces who have reached out offering their support and condolences. I will be traveling to Edmonton today to meet with provincial ministers and federal officials. The Government of Alberta continues to work closely with the federal government and local authorities. We have convened our Emergency Management Cabinet Coordination Committee and the Provincial Emergency Coordination Centre (PECC) has been activated to a level 3. As a mark of respect for those who have lost their lives and in solidarity with the military community and their families, flags at provincial government buildings across Alberta will be lowered to half-mast. In the days ahead, our thoughts will remain with everyone affected by this tragedy. Alberta stands with the Canadian Armed Forces, the people of Wainwright and all those grieving during this difficult time.

Over the past few months, endless Albertans have told us the same story. They saved for years to buy a single family home on a quiet street. They picked that neighbourhood on purpose, because of the park at the end of the block or the school two streets over or the neighbours who watch out for each other. Then one morning the house next door came down, with no notice, and later a 16 unit complex went up in its place, with nowhere for anyone to park and no consideration for the neighbourhood. Those are not complaints. They are people describing the place they built a life in with their family. So today we are acting. Edmonton will return to the density and height rules that were in place before 2024 and common sense minimum parking requirements, utility and water infrastructure considerations are coming back. Calgary will hold the line it set when it repealed blanket rezoning. Both cities will take a hard look at their bylaws and come back with something more balanced. Alberta needs more homes. We are building more of them than almost anywhere in Canada. But a home is more than a house, and a neighbourhood is more than a supply of lots.

Albertans are the best neighbours anyone could hope for. So I struggle to understand why anyone would do this. If our legislation passes this fall, police and the courts will have the tools to go after the people who decide to do this.

Over 1.45 million Albertans have already applied for the Alberta Energy Rebate. Make sure you are one of them. It is $100 for every eligible adult, which means $200 for the average family. There is now an extra month to get it done, with the deadline moved to October 31. This rebate is separate from the fuel tax relief coming tomorrow —so wait to fill up— which will save you 13 cents per litre at the pump. Make sure you apply to get the money put directly in your bank account. For more details on eligibility and to apply, click here: alberta.ca/alberta-energy-re…

🚨BREAKING The federal NDP and Avi Lewis @avilewis just released a statement opposing the new pacific link pipeline and demanding it be halted. They oppose Alberta's Pacific Link pipeline and they will do everything in their power to kill it. Understand what this means... This would kill 140,000 jobs. Stop tens of billions in new wealth for Albertans to build things like hospitals and schools. Lost jobs and lower paycheques for Alberta families. Today I am calling on Naheed Nenshi @nenshi to do what he should have done a long time ago. Cut ties with his boss, Avi Lewis and the federal NDP. Officially, formally, in writing today. A clean break, right down to the name of their party. Not doing so tells Albertans all they need to know about where the NDP stands on Alberta energy… which is “leave it in the ground”.
