🎬 Night of the Living Outdated
Some things are better left buried.
Outdated devices. Unsupported software. Legacy systems that keep hanging on year after year.
The scariest cybersecurity threat isn't always the newest one. Sometimes it's the device that's been sitting under a desk for years. The server nobody wants to touch. The software that's long overdue for retirement.
This Cybersecurity Awareness Month, we're spotlighting the risks that aging technology can create for businesses and the importance of keeping your environment secure, supported, and up to date.
Watch the video below, and if you're curious about what may be lurking in your technology environment, let's have a conversation.

🎃 👻 😱 During Cybersecurity Awareness Month we want to remind you that better online security comes down to habits rather than luck. These 13 tips can help you take back some control from the online ghouls:
1️⃣ Use a password manager with unique, strong passwords for every account.
2️⃣ Turn on multi-factor authentication (MFA) everywhere possible — choose authenticator apps over SMS when you can.
3️⃣ Keep your operating system updated and enable automatic updates.
4️⃣ Update your web browser and all apps regularly.
5️⃣ Pause and verify before clicking links or opening attachments in unexpected emails, texts, or messages (classic phishing defense).
6️⃣ Back up important data regularly (cloud + at least one offline copy).
7️⃣ Lock devices with a strong PIN/password or biometrics and set them to auto-lock.
8️⃣ Secure your Wi-Fi with a strong password and keep router firmware updated.
9️⃣ Use a reputable VPN on public Wi-Fi.
1️⃣0️⃣ Monitor your accounts for unusual activity and enable login alerts.
1️⃣1️⃣ Review and limit app permissions plus the personal info you share online.
1️⃣2️⃣ Disable Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and unnecessary location services when you’re not using them (especially in public places).
1️⃣3️⃣ Only download apps and software from official stores or the developer’s site, and review permissions before installing.
Remember, these are just basic precautions. Talk to professionals in the security industry to get next-level advice on the critical prevention and maintenance you need for your business. Reach out to @Centriworks for an expert cybersecurity assessment and secure your data!

Still paying for traditional phone lines? You might be overspending on a system that doesn’t fit how your team works today.
Here’s why many small businesses are switching to VoIP:
✅ Cuts hardware and monthly costs while delivering more features
✅ Supports remote and multi-location teams with calls, video, and messaging from any device
✅ Typically runs $20–$35 per user per month with predictable pricing
✅ Can boost productivity 20–25% through unified communications
✅ Prioritizes uptime, call routing, and integrations with tools like Microsoft Teams or Salesforce
A modern VoIP system isn’t just less expensive overall — it’s built for flexibility, security, and growth. Read the full article to see if it’s the right move for your business:

Cybersecurity gaps rarely announce themselves. They show up as an account with more access than it needs, a critical patch that never got installed, a backup no one has tested, or an alert sitting with no clear owner.
Those small issues compound as you add cloud apps, devices, remote access, and vendors. Controls that were enough a few years ago often no longer match the environment you have now. Strong security is less about owning the right tools and more about applying, monitoring, testing, and reviewing protections as the business changes.
Our latest article covers seven signs your organization may have cybersecurity gaps worth a closer look.
🎃 As we celebrate Cybersecurity Awareness Month, take a moment to review how these gaps might be currently effecting your business.

☑️ Employees regularly report slow or unreliable technology
☑️ Printer or multifunction device service calls have become more frequent
☑️ Some devices can no longer support current software or operating systems
☑️ Certain computers, printers, or other network devices are no longer receiving security updates
☑️ Your IT team spends more time fixing recurring issues than working on strategic projects
☑️ Older devices struggle with video meetings, cloud applications, or Microsoft 365
☑️ Your business has grown, but your tech hasn’t kept pace
☑️ Replacement parts for older equipment are becoming harder to find
☑️ Your technology environment hasn’t been formally evaluated in several years

6 Best Laptops and Desktop Computers for Your Business
The computer you give a new employee says a lot about how smoothly their first week will go. Slow boot times, lagging performance, or a machine that struggles to keep up with today’s business applications can quickly become a source of frustration.
Business computers are faster, more secure, and better equipped to support hybrid work than ever before. But there isn’t one “best” computer for every employee. An executive managing multiple applications has different needs than a receptionist using scheduling software and email, while an engineer working with CAD software requires an entirely different level of performance.
Whether you’re refreshing aging hardware, outfitting a growing team, or standardizing across the company, here are six business computers that consistently deliver, matched to the roles they serve best:

Recently, Kim Payne used her Centriworks Volunteer Day for Backpack & School Supply distribution through the Mission of Hope. She volunteered alongside 20 others from her church serving kids and teachers at an elementary school in Cosby. Kim’s son, Lucas gave an encouraging talk to the students for the new school year!
To encourage a spirit of service, every Centriworks team member receives a paid volunteer day each year to support a charitable organization of their choice. It’s one way we recognize that giving back matters.
Of course, many of our employees volunteer well beyond that one day. Whether they’re mentoring young people, serving on nonprofit boards, or lending a hand at local events, they’re making a difference throughout East Tennessee.

If your business works with the Department of War, supports the defense supply chain, or plans to pursue federal contracts, you’ve likely seen headlines about the recent pause to the Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC) program.
For many organizations, the announcement has raised an obvious question: What does this mean for my business? Read our blog "CMMC Phase II Is Paused: What Should Your Business Do Next?" for more info:

At Centriworks, we believe we’re more than a technology partner to the businesses we serve, we’re neighbors, too. Our team members live, raise families, coach youth sports, volunteer, and build their lives right here in East Tennessee. Supporting the communities we call home isn’t something we do because it’s expected; it’s part of who we are.
That commitment takes many forms. Sometimes it’s a financial donation. Sometimes it’s donated equipment or technology services that help nonprofits do more with limited resources. And often, it’s our employees giving their time to causes they care deeply about.
To encourage that spirit of service, every Centriworks team member receives a paid volunteer day each year to support a charitable organization of their choice. It’s one way we recognize that giving back matters, and that investing in our communities should be part of the workday, not just something reserved for personal time.
Of course, many of our employees volunteer well beyond that one day. Whether they’re mentoring young people, serving on nonprofit boards, or lending a hand at local events, they’re making a difference throughout East Tennessee and the Tri-Cities.
Here are just a few of the organizations we’re proud to support.
