🛑 Can we pause for a minute to acknowledge that damaged relationships causing student fear and mistrust will prevent learning of any kind? The time vested into creating a safe climate is essential…especially coming back to schools in 2021.

“Leaders need to be mindful of what Black educators need, not just to maintain their mental health and well-being, but to become the high-caliber teacher-activists our students need them to be.” Take notice, ask, listen....and then act. Empowerment of all staff is long overdue.

“...not a single one of us had been approached to become a teacher until we had graduated college”. Are we paying attention to future educators of color sitting in our K-12 classrooms? I remember being encouraged to teach in elementary school. I am a white female.
The statistics are stark: Fewer than 7 percent of teachers are Black, and just 2 percent are Black men. And teacher turnover rates are especially high for Black men. #TeacherRetention edweek.org/leadership/what-b…

So excited to be part of organization committed to “calling each other in”. Great article outlining actions! “We have to know how our power, privilege, and positionality influence our lives...and how they can be abusive, and even toxic, to others if we are not mindful.”
