We developed D2O labeling of polar lipids of soil microbes as culture and gene independent index of growth. Many thanks to reviewers and editors for getting this in print before New Year. authors.elsevier.com/a/1gIgu… – at Sydney, New South Wales

It was great to contribute to paper led by Tsai-Hsuan Tony Hsu on fish corallivory. Turns out storage lipids may play a role in resilience of corals to chronic butterflyfish predation. sciencedirect.com/science/ar…
Paper led by @bahar_usyd is methodological tour de force: 13C labelling, mass spec, NEXAFS. Nitrogen availability alters the contribution of ex-vivoand in-vivo pathways to carbon formation in particulate- and mineral-associated organic matter sciencedirect.com/science/ar…
I moved into a “new” #lab last week. A welcome surprise is finding I’m not the oldest thing in the lab. Case in point: Schott bottle labelled 9/5/71

How can we make plants fix carbon more efficiently? 🌿
This is the question that researchers from the @Sydney_Uni and @ourANU have spent five years pondering.

Around 7 years after the experiment wrapped up it is out in print! We investigated heat tolerance mechanisms of sorghum genotypes differing in heat tolerance. Kudos to Alexander Watson-Lazowski and team for persevering.

We are currently recruiting a PhD student to work on venom mechanisms and CRISPR screening like the below paper, but with new techniques. If you like CRISPR, pain, and or venoms, and you are an Australian citizen or have PR, please feel free to contact me here or by email.
Our new paper on an antidote for cobra venom is out. Work done by @anti_d4 @CPC_usyd @Sydney_Science and in collaboration with @nickcasewell @LSTMnews
doi.org/10.1126/scitranslmed…
Using CRISPR screening we found that cobra venom damage can be blocked by excess heparin.
Can someone explain the timescale on the department of home affairs visa site? #DataVizFail
