Today, the #Chechen Republic of Ichkeria marks 35 years since its declaration of #independence from the #USSR.
#Chechnya never signed the Federal Treaty with the Russian Federation and never became part of the Russian Federation. Its sovereignty and right to self-determination remain undeniable.
We reaffirm our commitment to #democracy, human rights, self-determination, and international law. We do not want to be part of the so-called “Russian world.”
The presence of 100,000 Russian troops on Chechen soil is #occupation.
Happy Independence Day, Ichkeria!

The international community must call on #Russia to recognize the #genocide of the #Chechen people, complete the withdrawal of military forces from the Chechen Republic, and provide appropriate reparations. Failure to meet these international obligations severely compromises Russia's standing and aligns its policy with state-sponsored extremism.
The #occupation of the Chechen Republic of Ichkeria continues.

August 6 is a pivotal date in the modern history of #Chechnya and a key moment of the First Russo-Chechen War. On this day in 1996, large-scale battles for #Grozny began.
The Essence of the Event
On the morning of August 6, 1996, armed formations of the Chechen Republic of #Ichkeria, commanded by Aslan #Maskhadov, launched a surprise entry into Grozny. Gudermes and Argun were attacked simultaneously. Utilizing fast mobile group tactics, #Chechen forces bypassed checkpoints and surrounded key administrative sites, military command offices, and federal troop bases, severing communication between them.
The operation caught the Russian military leadership completely off guard. Despite the federal forces' superiority in heavy armor and aviation, control over key districts of Grozny shifted to the Chechen units.
The events of August 6 and the subsequent weeks of fighting turned further military action into a protracted stalemate, forcing Russia to the negotiating table. The direct result of the August battles was the signing of the Khasavyurt Accords on August 31, 1996, by Alexander Lebed and Aslan Maskhadov, which effectively ended the First Russo-Chechen War and led to the withdrawal of federal troops from the republic.
For us Chechens, this is the Day of Victory over the Russian occupiers. Our men and women defended Grozny desperately and achieved their goal.
We never chose to be part of the Russian Federation. #Russia is a #colonial power, and decolonizing Russia is essential for long-term peace and security in #Europe.
