🍎 We analyzed 10,000+ school lunch entrées across 45 U.S. school districts. What did we find?
🥩 More than 1 in 4 entrées contained processed meat, which the @IARCWHO classifies as a Group 1 carcinogen.
🍗 Breaded chicken products like nuggets and patties were the most frequently served entrée category.
This isn’t the fault of school nutrition professionals. Federal policy helps shape what ends up on the tray.
@SecRollins made things worse when USDA cut $660 million from local school food programs. USDA’s recent investments in school kitchens and Farm to School are welcome steps—but much more is needed.
@USDA and Congress must provide the resources and reform the procurement policies schools need to shift toward scratch cooking, minimally processed foods, fiber-rich plant proteins & higher-quality animal products produced without routine antibiotics and hormones.
Better school food requires better federal policy.
📣 Take action: Sign our petition to urge USDA to phase out processed meat. Link in the comments.

Students are asking for more plant-based options at school — but school districts face barriers in meeting that demand. Rep @NydiaVelazquez & @RepAdams Plant Powered School Meals Pilot Act would change that. Take action: Text FUTURE to 30373
