Even the NYT, two days too late to matter (right on schedule for the NYT!), has dimly figured the reality out. There is no "idyllic" "farm" to which to retire working, well-treated, mentally and physically healthy carriage horses. Horses are expensive to maintain. And there is a waiting list of neglected, abused, non-NYC horses to save. This idea that perfectly well-treated NYC carriage horses are going to retire to some "farm" is a fantasy held by the non-working anti-horse activists who cry when they see a working horse. And, of course, by our fact-free, data free City Council speaker and city council.

Just witnessed a fire truck BARREL up 10th Ave bike lane, then it had to cut into vehicle traffic because of this illegally parked truck unloading. Proof again that bike lanes help emergency response time while illegal vehicle activity & sheer volume of cars hamper them.

We are going backward.
For two decades, the city has shown an unwillingness and inability to enforce regulations against pedicabs, which are part scam and part nuisance, with the drivers of these wide electric vehicles encroaching on the pedestrian paths. The selective interest when it comes to singling out the horse carriages for this special treatment when everyone else engages in blatant lawlessness is rather glaring.
Huge show of solidarity by clean air advocates at the council hearings of a law that would gut the idling program. It lasted until 4:45 pm ! Really uplifting. @NY_Clean_Air
Now 25 groups oppose Intro. 561-A's threat to our air quality. @SpeakerMenin needs to listen and PULL THE BILL.

Absolutely, positively awful-- no way.
This kind of advertising courtesy of Heli-D Aerial Media just feels wrong, seen in New York City, Oct. 13, 2026. A company tried this on boats on the Hudson River and East River a few years ago but were eventually banned from doing it #newyork #newyorkcity #nyc

Most road widenings happened with 0 public input. Trucks just showed up in the middle of the night and bulldozed sidewalks to add a few traffic lanes because traffic engineers said so.
Now, when we want those lanes converted back to sidewalks or bike lanes, it requires 15 public meetings, coordination between 5 different city agencies, and special one-on-one meetings with NIMBYs.
And it still might not happen because that NIMBY knows people in city hall.
Don’t you dare break what works. We depend on it to breathe.
Big thanks to @Chekpeds and @NYC_SafeStreets plus many others for supporting the Citizens Air Complaint Program. @NYCWater should take note--this program is really popular!
