I would like to comment on this article in The Guardian by one of the professors who participated in that movement.  I want to make it clear right away so that no one misunderstands me: I am immensely happy that the country where I was born has finally broken free from an autocrat like Vučić, who was Milošević’s right hand, let us not forget that. I am sharing this comment as someone who loves Serbia and remains deeply attached to that country. That being said, it is all very well to talk about the lessons Europe can learn, but we must be extremely cautious. Can this student movement truly serve as a model when it stems from a chaotic 30-year period during which the state failed to stabilise its governance, the essence of democracy, or fundamental political values? Proclaiming such a movement as a miraculous solution especially since they have excluded all other political options through systematic attacks, is highly dangerous and could lead to catastrophic consequences. We already see a clear example of this in their statements that they will not support sanctions against Russia, even though they know perfectly well who the aggressor is in Ukraine. What does this actually mean for Europe and its supposed lessons? Can we really afford to completely ignore political experience, expertise, and institutional knowledge just to hand over space to students whose views lean towards extremism, such as denying the Srebrenica genocide? Should we genuinely be looking to that as a role model for the future? theguardian.com/commentisfre…

Please share this ⬇️ ‘If you still doubt what I'm saying then please see the attached video of me questioning Pete Weatherby KC at a Garden Court Chambers event. He admits on camera that MPs (all legislators) are not included but Ministers are. Even his lawyer colleague didn't know that and apologised for getting it wrong so it's clear most people have no idea.’
Hi again, Charlotte. I'm copying in @HillsboroughSu1 AND @LawHillsborough and @DebatINQUEST here because your message has revealed to me something very important. You seem to genuinely believe that legislators (MPs etc) are included under the Duty of Candour and I assume the Misleading the Public offence? I'm very sorry (and I'm angry about it which is I'm campaigning) but this isn't right. MPs have a carve out (just as the security services wanted before). You are totally correct, and I completely agree with you, that Parliamentary Privilege (Article 9 Bill of Rights) will never be amended and so the new offences could only apply to acts outside of what is said and done in proceedings in Parliament. For me, that's enough. I think that when legislators are speaking on television, the radio, social media, or at events etc outside their Parliaments, they should be held to account under the Misleading the Public offence. At present, they are not. I also think it's completely insane that, in an inquest or an inquiry, if a member of Parliament is called to give evidence, they will not be required legally to abide by the Duty of Candour (whereas nearly everyone else who works for the public will be). It'll be a humiliation of that event and our Parliaments every time that happens. You can see from my attached image of Schedule 2 that they are exempted. As are members of all Parliaments across the UK. If you don't believe me please just read schedule 2 now and you'll see. Link: bills.parliament.uk/publicat… If you still doubt what I'm saying then please see the attached video of me questioning Pete Weatherby KC at a Garden Court Chambers event. He admits on camera that MPs (all legislators) are not included but Ministers are. Even his lawyer colleague didn't know that and apologised for getting it wrong so it's clear most people have no idea. Perhaps let's have a call? The Hillsborough Bill must become law no matter what but if the law makers themselves aren't included then it'll enormously damage public trust in democracy as it'll be seen as hypocritical. Up for a call to discuss? I think all legislators in the UK need to be included for acts outside their Parliaments.

Student List convincingly won yesterday's parliamentary elections in Serbia. A few day before elections they published their manifesto, which also sets out its main foreign policy objectives and defines the country’s national interests. The key points are: SL confirms that it will continue to advocate military neutrality (proclaimed in 2007, before the Serbian Progressive Party came to power). On Kosovo (and Metohija), the SL maintains that the territory is an integral part of Serbia and will oppose both Kosovo’s independence and its membership of international organisations. The Students’ List approaches the European Union from the standpoint that it is Serbia’s most important economic partner. It advocates deepening and expanding the strategic partnerships with EU member states. The programme does not explicitly state that Serbia intends to join the European Union, nor does it elaborate further on the EU enlargement process. What does the programme say on sanctions against Russia, relations with Republika Srpska, status of Serbs in Montenegro and Croatia, on Israel and Palestine? Short summary of this section of manifesto is available here (via Foreign Policy Forum website): fpf.hr/analysis/serbias-fore…

NOPE. This cannot be allowed to happen. Jackdaw was climate vandalism but if Burnham nods Rosebank through, after saying he would not, we know he's just following orders from Trump. This would be a catastrophic decision for Labour but most importantly, the climate. Shocking.

Just like 🇬🇧Reform slipping behind in the polls, 🇩🇪AfD is now also "falling to its lowest level in months"👇 Looks like far right parties with dodgy finances are losing their appeal (with Trump's totally corrupt 🇺🇸 administration also serving as a wake-up call)

Yet another ugly attack on yet another female reporter asking entirely legitimate questions. Second time this week. Lost count of number of times overall. Reporters need to defend their colleagues and then walk away. Trump yearns for the cameras. Take then away from him.
NBC's Monica Alba deserves a spot right beside Kaitlan Collins on the Mount Rushmore of White House correspondents

A nurse who lies to the public could go to prison. An MP who says the same words won't. Ministers, police and civil servants are covered. Backbench MPs and peers aren't. Send this to someone who needs to see it.

60 years ago today 144 people died in the Welsh village of Aberfan when a colliery spoil tip collapsed onto them. 109 of those were children attending the village school. A tragedy that broke hearts, which remain broken now. The strength and courage shown by that community is an example to us all.

1/3 Lying to the public is about to become a crime in the UK. Ministers, civil servants, police, the military: all covered by the new Hillsborough Law. Guess who isn't? The people writing it.

1/3 Last night two peers tried to delete the heart of the Hillsborough Law: the offence that makes it a crime for public officials to deliberately mislead the public. They gave no statement saying it was just a probing amendment. It failed. The offence stays in the Bill.

Active Measures (2018) connects the dots between Trump, dirty Russian money, and how he’s been Putin’s puppet all along. Fun fact: After Trump’s bankruptcies in the ’90s, Russian buyers poured millions into his real estate empire.
