Mayor Brandon Johnson submitted approximately 33,000 signatures to qualify for the February 2027 mayoral election. Now, NBC 5 Chicago reports that his submission included: 🚨 Nearly 100 photocopied petition pages. 🚨 Five petition pages belonging to City Treasurer Melissa Conyears-Ervin. Illinois election rules require original signatures, not photocopies. CFR HAS QUESTIONS! Who was hired to organize, review, and bind these petitions? Who inspected the documents before they were submitted? How did another candidate’s petition pages end up in the mayor’s filing? And who authorized the final submission? CFR believes election laws must apply equally to every candidate, including the sitting mayor. If an official review establishes grounds for disqualification under Illinois election law, Johnson should face the same consequences as any other candidate.
