Deep dive thread into Sharks issue:
1. Celebrini looks exhausted. Think Olympics, 82 game season, and world championships, and then training all summer has gotten him exhausted. Hasn’t been the superstar he was last year. Makes sense and we need to give him practice days off
9. This team needs a change. For Warso it might be assistant coaches or he goes. Grier might make Edvinsson trade. As sharks fans we got to realize we boost our youth but they aren’t all Celebrini’s. And there a chance they don’t take that leap that Edvinsson has already done.
8. Feel bad for Dickinson, Smith, Misa. Good for the sharks but these 3 coming up on contract extensions. Don’t see how they can ask for the entire truck. Maybe smith but if we secure Misa, Dickinson I think we do it off a deal. But still will Miss be a 2c ever. We will see.
7. Grier locked us in a win now mode by adding Trouba and nurse. Trouba singlehandeldy worth contract for unlocking Dickinson but Marchment and Nurse contracts not good. 4th line he made worst in league. Didn’t add Spence on d. Should have gotten another vet d on this team.
6. This is what happens with a young team. We have legit 6 forwards under 23 now 7 most of the game. Most teams have 1 being sheltered by vets. Look at Chicago. Iq, speed, confidence is built over time and with help of vets. This isn’t happening. Not coaching but gm decisions
5. Man on man d zone coverage is not built for skaters who can’t handle pressure along boards. Just isn’t. It also requires a lot of iq + communication when opposing team crosses each other. We lack this. Everyone lacks this from Celebrini —> Ostapchuk. Not enough communication
4. Warsofsky, I hope people realize structure isn’t telling people not too shoot. That’s not Warso. Regardless he has been bad strategically w/forecheck, lines, d zone You could argue too he doesn’t run d or o strats and that’s assistant coaches. Whoever it is needs to go.
3. D core. Our d is obviously bad. Doesn’t feel as bad though even though we are being dominated. It feels like it’s being weighed down by bad moments. Orlov with majority of them. Need to get Orlov off the team asap. Too many turnovers.
2. Team lacks speed for a 2-1-2 forecheck. Celebrini Misa Sherwood at the only players with top end speed. For a 2-1-2 forecheck you need to pressure d quick for it to work. We don’t do that. That’s why 1-2-2 will suffice when Cherny and Wenny out
Do think people should realize while Warso is bad his structure is not what is making our youth timid in o zone. That isn’t structure. Structure is the 2-1-2 forecheck and man on man defense which personally don’t think is good for us.
If I could have one thing for the Sharks right now it would just be play loose and play hard. Don’t care about mistakes just care about skating and playing hard. They aren’t doing that at all right now. Thinking way too long. Grier on the clock here. He locked us in on contracts
Final thoughts on this one. No reason to stay watching this game on Halloween. Players lack jump and have lacked compete for games. Some lines and people have it for spurt but not line after line. Our 4th line vets and some of our younger guys need to step up.
Ryan Warsofsky said he decided tonight to reunite Will Smith and Macklin Celebrini with about a minute and a half left in the second period.
"Obviously, we couldn't generate anything, and we've been trying to work with some things within our lines and try to get some chemistry going. And obviously, it wasn't working, and it was just time."
By the way we all know Warsofsky will say “It wasn’t the line changes, it was about the level of compete we brought to 3rd period” which is a bunch of bullshit. Hopefully @Sheng_Peng pushes back on it.
Final game thoughts:
Smith with a monster 3rd period. Warso says play simple hockey but Warso should make simple decisions. Both Celebrini and Smith need each other right now and that’s okay. They are amazing together when they are playing well. Liked Misa/Marchment/Sherwood
My biggest worries with this team are coaching, Misa,, Stenberg. Stenberg and Misa are #2 picks. Think Stenberg playing amazing this year. However, we need to be patient with him. Misa makes some awful decisions. Can’t drive any offense. Good complement with speed. Warso sucks
