Cracked pipes on your property can let in rain. This can overload our sewer system and contribute to sewer overflows into buildings and the environment. Find out more: ow.ly/MnoL50PYJNH

With wet flurries and snowfall happening at higher elevations it’s time to brush up on snow etiquette and brush off those shovels.
Here’s what you need to remember:
• Clear your sidewalks: property and business owners are required to clear the sidewalks adjacent to their property by 10am for Priority Pedestrian routes, or within 24 hours for other routes.
• Clear curb letdowns: when clearing sidewalks, make sure that you include curb letdowns – your neighbours with accessibility needs or wheeled accessories such as strollers will thank you!
• Clear around fire hydrants: property and business owners must also clear snow around fire hydrants to ensure emergency access. Fines for violating the bylaw start at $100.
• Avoid parking on the street: snowplows need room to pass safely and efficiently on all streets. We ask all residents to avoid parking on the street whenever possible during snowfall events.
• Winter parking restrictions will be in effect in a few areas where it is especially difficult for snowplows to pass next to parked cars. Find more information and maps at portmoody.ca/snowandice.
• Plan ahead for commute: give yourself lots of extra time, consider alternate forms of transportation for essential travel, and be prepared to drive for the conditions.
Here’s what the City’s winter response plan includes:
• Port Moody Roads: we clear and maintain roads in Port Moody based on a priority system that classifies roads as Priority 1, 2, or 3. We work around the clock to ensure access on Priority 1/2 routes, and prioritize continued clearing based on the same system. Not sure about your road’s priority? The priority map is available on portmoody.ca/snowandice.
• Pedestrian walkways: while sidewalks adjacent to private property are the responsibility of residents, strata corporations, and business owners, the City is responsible for other walkways such as routes that provide access to active transportation networks. We have a two-level priority system, with pedestrian areas within 800 metres of the Inlet Centre and Moody Centre SkyTrain stations classified as Priority 1.
Please note that our social media is not monitored 24/7. You can report issues by filling out the online form on portmoody.ca/reportaproblem or calling 604-469-4574.

As residents of Port Moody, we have a shared responsibility to support local wildlife during the winter while managing rodent issues. Keeping your yard a bit wild can be a lifeline for small creatures, as leaf piles and plant debris offer crucial shelter. On the other hand, ensure your home is secure against wildlife seeking indoor shelter by minimizing food sources and sealing any openings. Avoid rodenticides, as they can harm non-target wildlife and pets.
Remember, feeding wildlife is not only illegal under local bylaws and the BC Wildlife Act, but it also poses safety risks by attracting rodents and larger predators. For more information, visit tinyurl.com/3vx6vvba.
