According to the latest data, suicide rates are at the highest level since 1999. Three quarters of suicides are by men, but the number of suicides amongst women has increased, and is now greater than in 1994.
Nobody should go through suicidal feelings alone. Our patient leaflet sets out where you, or a loved one, can access specialist support 24/7.

How can we improve mental health support for people who have little trust in mainstream services?
🤝By working in collaboration with voluntary & community sector orgs and co-designing services alongside people with mental health problems.

ALT Text: The voluntary sector is uniquely placed to support people with mental health difficulties, and is sometimes more trusted than statutory services. But the funding for these vital services is often short-term, competitive, and uncertain, which limits their ability to plan or collaborate with others. New suicide figures for the final 3m of 2023 are published by @ONS today, giving us rates for last year as a whole.
It is not good news.
The suicide rate rose 6% from 2022, the first substantial rise since 2018.
The rate was 11.1 per 100,000 people, highest figure since 1999.

Mental illness costs England £300bn a year..
We need to re-imagine how society works. We can’t just say ‘more money for mental health services’ - though that IS important. We need to address the social and economic determinants of mental illness. theguardian.com/society/2024…
